He has core strength issues, and he’s going to have to make a big commitment to changing that. Hopefully he already has. He has the skill to play in the NHL, but until he’s stronger, it’s going to effect his development too.

He reminds me some of Jonathon Berggren in many ways. He looks really good, then when he takes a step forward against better players, he struggles in the corners and ends up with nagging injuries.. Berggren couldn’t keep himself healthy for a couple of years (post draft) either playing against bigger, stronger players. All core injuries like Lekkerimaki. Look at him now though. I’m not sure there’s a pound for pound guy his size that’s any stronger. He goes into the corners against some big boys and comes out with the puck now. Sky is the limit.

So it’s possible. The skill is there. He just needs to get that core strength going, and then to feel it on the ice. Gaining the confidence to play in the corners and on the walls. It might take a couple of years but it should be worth it. I liked him a lot in his draft. He was worth that pick, as long as he get himself stronger and healthier.
I thought his injuries last year were mono, concussion, broken foot. Were there core injuries before?

Between last years playoffs and this year's impressive start, it looks like Lekkerimaki has shaken off the injuries and mono. I was quite worried he would be another disaster Canucks first rounder, in the vein of Juolevi and Virtanen, but he could end up re-writing the D+1 narrative that saw him plummet down the prospect rankings. Very encouraging early signs this year.

I had Pasta vibes from him in his draft year and was disappointed how his year went last year (injuries etc)

He’s looking like the real deal and I see he’s back on track, I’m hoping he absolutely dominates the World Juniors this year if his team allows him to go. If everything goes well for him I see him as a poor man’s Pasta in the 80 point range playing the opposite side of Pettersson on the PP unleashing bombs.

Howitzer of a shot, ridiculously lethal with velocity and accuracy.

His shot actually reminds me alot of Pettersson's shot with the Canucks.

The funny thing is both players are very wirey, thin and light. You wouldnt think their body frame can produce that much velocity on a shot until you see Pettersson winning the hardest shot competition at the All Star Game.

Lekerrimakki's game is coming along. His passing game and ice-q is actually very under-rated.

Would love to see him work on getting closer to the net more offensively but that will hopefully come as he grows into his body.

If Lekkerimaki and Willander both end up hitting for Vancouver in a big way, I could see them making some noise in the Playoffs in two years. Demko, Hughes, Hronek, Pettersson, Miller, Boeser, Lekkerimaki, and Willander is an amazing core. Also kind of interesting that it includes zero Canadians.

The Canucks can't scout for shit in their backyard lol.

Man I'm not sure about in 2 years, if you said 2-4 that would be different.

Ya that's really weird...too bad we couldn't nab a local kid last draft that would have been heaven for this Canucks fan.

Yeah man, I would have liked a local kid too. I think this is the golden age coming up for BC boys in the league…Bedard, Celebrini, Benson, Stankoven, etc. all entering the league as potential star to superstar players over the next two seasons. Joining current players like Toews, Theodore, Barzal, Reinhart, Rielly, Byram, Benn, Nugent-Hopkins, K. Johnson, Kane, Johansen, Hill, etc.

As for my timeframe for the Canucks…I think we’re agreeing. You say 2-4 years and I say 2 years, but I mean as the earliest possible starting point for them to become an actual threat to do damage. Not this year, not next year, but the one after.

What a turn around season! Building on his great playoff run last year.
Trying to remember the last prospect the Canucks had that had such a poor season and then ripped it up the following season. Looking like it was mono that really derailed most of last season.
