There's many reasons, but a big one that hasn't been mentioned yet, is that several Michkov fans called habs fans delusional last summer for saying Demidov was the same level of talent as Michkov. According to them, Michkov was multiple tiers better than Demidov.

didn't realize that. You could have linked them this tweet:

Or this podcast, where we talked about him at the beginning

It's pretty clear that if not for his trips to Rotenberg's doghouse, he would have outscored both Michkov and Kaprizov in the same amount of games. Whether that makes him a better prospect is another question as the surrounding cast is quite different.

But I think in hindsight, it was better for his progress to have to overcome this situation. Adversity breeds toughness and he proved he has character by just keeping his nose down and working to achieve undeniable stardom and receive the recognition of his coach. He might not have improved as much if he had been handed premium minutes from day one. Stats at 18 are meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

This is what I had posted recently, a couple weeks ago

The Habs fan base were horrified with his usage but the way he was starting to overcome it, produce with limited Ice team and eventually dominate into way more minutes is very key in his development

Michkov and Demidov are two wonderful talents, but as I see it, they're different in their playing styles and personalities.

Michkov seems to me like a player that is strictly offensively oriented. He's more of an individualistic player than Demidov.

Demidov is a more complete player, he's a gamer...

He looks to me like a player that is not as hard to coach neither.
He'll do his things but I think he's more open to consider his coach's feedbacks, if it enables him to get globally better.

He looks to me like a more mature and humble person.

I might be wrong but it's the impression that I have with the informations that we have.

It is ok to over come having to deal with a clown coach for a while, just not too long. Now it's been 2 seasons, I'd say it's the max...

I think Demidov drives the play a bit more and keeps the puck longer. Both are extremely good, but I think Michkov is a more of a finisher, more of a guy who has a few touches and creates fast.

Yeah, sometimes tough love is what the doctor has to prescribe.

How can you learn to face adversity and to get up when you have fallen if you've been (over)protected from all those things...

Today's western world educational standards are focusing too much on immediate gratification and on dodging/avoiding pain at all cost.

But you have to learn to go through pain in life, cause life can be painful sometimes and to embrace it and accept that it's not something that comes naturally is needed. Particularly for people evolving in very competitive environment.

You have to train to gain muscles. You don't grow strong by avoiding pain and by avoiding getting out of your comfort zone...

Demidov has to be a 100% home run for this rebuild to succeed. This team has been bereft of talent for 40 years now. It cannot maintain a competitive level of play if injuries hit. One important player goes down, and the team follows. This teams needs talent to truly compete. Until then, it's all smoke and mirrors.

Ties Kaprisov's record for most points ever by a U20 player in the KHL.... and he has 16 games left to play.

Might as well go for Kaprisov's U22 record as well.

What a god damn steal. He's going to be a franchise player.

Yes but to be fair, Kaprizov didn't play a full season either. He did it in 49gp
His OT assist was something too

Only sometimes. Markov would certainly agree. Gallagher, Price, and Anderson might tell you otherwise.

Not sure if you remember he bridged Gallagher and Price first

...yeah, he didn't sign Price or Gally long term when it made sense, and then paid them too much for past performance on terrible long-term deals...with Andy, Bargain Bin was in luv...

He’s certainly shooting more than he was so he’s diversifying his skillset. Easy to chirp from thousands of miles away but ultimately he has become a more well rounded prospect under their development program.
