I'm not as high on Sawchyn as some people are on here. I've watched him all season and he was good in the regular season, he largely disappeared in the playoffs. Might have been injuries, who knows.

He didn't get much PP time once Spicy Dyl/Lambert/Dach came on.

He also doesn't bring much to the table in terms of defense.
For him to get pushed down lineup isn't really indictment of him. That Seattle team was absolutely loaded. And not like any of the other MC teams had draft eligible 2005 guys playing key roles.

I like Myatovic more than Sawchyn personally. Wasn't impressed with Sawchyn throughout the playoffs and Mem Cup, although part of that may be due to the role given to him.

Sawchyn has been injured during Memorial Cup... Broken hand/wrist area and he was trying to play through it all tournament

It wasn't announced at all during the Memorial Cup but soon it'll be made public

That's why he was so quiet at the tourny and didn't play much

Also I was told Ciona and Gustafson from Seattle will be getting shoulder surgery pretty quick here too.. were playing thru it at Memorial Cup too

I'm not sure what EP sees in Sawchyn to elevate him up to #13 OA. Based on the 15 or so Seattle games I have watched, he seemed much more like a lower tier prospect. He had flashes of high performance, but he also tended to disappear for stretches. Earlier in the playoffs, he also seemed to take meander a bit and take excessively long shifts, while being gassed during the later parts of the shifts.

Let's just say that if he's an "A" grade player, Benson has to be A+++. Watching them head-to-head, Benson was just miles better. If Sawchyn is really the #13 player available, you have to wonder if this is a weak / shallow draft.

EP is just a lot higher on him than any of the other ranking aggregators. It'll be interesting to see what the NHL scouts think come draft day.

If his play warranted his rise, than I would have agreed. But I've watched a lot of Thunderbirds game all season and I didn't see exactly the reason for his mid-season rise.

He's really hidden on a deep team, they are betting on the upside with opportunity to show through next year.

You'd have to be blind not to see he has electrifying offensive skills, he just wasn't given many favorable opportunities to display them on Seattle.

Elite Prospects has him 13OA on their final board with an A grade
Just to clarify, "A grade" means that they gave him a first round grade, they have 26 "A grade".

Lot to like about him. Seattle shuffled lines all season so I wouldn’t look into it too much. Myatovic saw more ice time because he killed penalties. But Sawchyn’s energy and puck hounding created a lot of turnovers and he was quick to transition and exiting in his own. Remember that Seattle had active dmen who are involved in the play and shoot a lot. Very good passer and vision. He’s a player, but top-15 is crack smoking, Slater gimme drugs territory. Late 1st at best.
