But also no glaring strengths.

To be a top 4 d-man you need some kind of attribute that'll put you over the edge.

Allan doesn't have that.

So either he's a bottom pairing, or worse a career AHLer. Hopefully the former, but we've got lots of those guys in the system and it's easy to get more. So what is Allan going to do that separates him from the crowd?

OK.

There is a massive difference between calling him a bad pick at the spot, and just calling him a terrible player. Musto did both. Allan can play, but it was still a stupid ass pick.
I still believe that the Hawks were hoping to get Allan at 44(their 2nd that eventually was traded to CMS) and Dach at 62...but since the 12th and 44th were traded for the 32nd in the SJones deal Allan was grabbed way earlier

Looking forward to watching him and Del Mastro in the top 4 in a handful of years.
watched like 10 Tbirds games this year (playoffs and mem cup mostly) and he was one of their most consistent players. He even jumped into the play and showed some great hands on offense a few times.

Del Mastro was the by far the best player in his own zone for Canada WJC team this year.

Small sample size but they played big in big games, looking forward to seeing what they can do at the next level.

would be very fitting if bowman and kelley went a decade plus whiffing on defensemen and goalies to find allan, del mastro and commesso in one of their last drafts and they all turn into meaningful pieces
If that were to happen, it's a testament to the changes KD has made regarding development.

Under Bowman and Kelley, all of those guys are rushed to the NHL where Colliton misuses and ruins them.

Mitchell wasn’t rushed and he still sucked.
They actively screwed with his development.

Called up for 3 games, sent down, called up again for one game, sent back down, called up just to be scratched for multiple games in a row, sent back down, etc.

Plus you can't expect anyone to thrive under Colliton.

the future is bright!

Nazar could turn out to be a perfect 2C behind Bedard
Might be true, but then 3C needs to be a big (and skilled) 2-way guy...there are quite a few available in this draft. One or two might even fall to 35 who were projected to go in the first round. Maybe Nazar ends up on Bedard’s wing, along with a physical big wing power forward type.

The more I think about it, the more I believe we need to keep 35, and package a lower 2nd with the 3rd if a second is getting traded.

My opinion: Nazar is NOT going to be an NHL center.

Maybe - maybe not. The thing is his style of play is to attack the middle with the puck - he plays like a center. I'm not saying he couldn't be effective as a winger but the only reason why he wouldn't be considered first as a center is his size - but to counter that is his skating which is very high end.

None of it matters unless we know more about his hip surgery. Why won’t he talk about it? If it was no big deal then you’d want that to be public. Did Davidson know he had a hip issue when he was drafted? Is that why he dropped? Great great player. Red flags exist.

What is with the aggressions here? There's injury or surgery of prospects you don't always know plenty. He's a college prospect, that's not bizarre a college prospect is not talking about injury specificities.

You sound very agitated for no reason.

Im not agitated. It’s important to be realistic. If you were drawing up “best D+1 season” and “worst D+1 season” for a 1st round pick, having a mysterious hip surgery, coming back and producing very little, missing WJC, etc. would be close to the worst thing you could hope for in a prospect D+1 but there’s just a lot of people penciling him in. There are legitimate concerns.

Was reading some analytics guy say that if you want to contend you need 5 stars. That sounds about right. I’m high on Seth Jones in a contender, Bedard, ….Korchinski and Reichel maybe. Need to find a few more guys. Nazar would be one of them if he’s right. This two year window of picks is gigantic and will decide if you’re the 2010 hawks again or if you’re the leafs or oilers. I guess I’m looking at it through that lens.

That's why they need to essentially still tank, not as hard, but rebuild for 3 more years with top 10 picks. Hopefully another lottery win or another top 5 pick.

People always pencil in prospects. But Nazar was questionable to ever play this season after the injury. So it wasn't the worst outcome. When people expected he may not play, coming back and looking healthy and fast was a good result. But the NHLe stuff you're not likely to be an NHL unless you're a top half 1st rounder. Rinzel they know was a skills gamble last 1st. It's a wait and see.

yes he could be a winger I see Reichel as a winger for Bedard and Nazar would not be a fit with them IMO, not the right compliment for those two.
