I'm not foolish to write Zadina off, but calling his AHL rookie season amazing by only using the
19 year old factor, is just wrong, well that's what i think anyways.

BTW. Zadina had the same amount points what Tolvanen, Zadina played 1 more game what Tolvanen
(both are 1999 born, 7 months age difference)

For 1999 born AHL skaters, Zadina was first in goals per game and tied first for total goals with Necas. Maybe that's not amazing by your standards but it's still pretty good.

Fun fact: Timothy Liljegren TRIPLED the number of goals he had in his record setting rookie season and still managed to have a disappointing year.

Stop forcing ridiculously small sample sizes to try to make a point

I'll admit I had huge expectations for Zadina going into the season and he didn't have the strongest year but there were some really good signs. Not worried about his development at all right now.

If you weren't worried at all, you wouldn't feel the need to reassure anyone that you're not worried.

It would be like Devils fans saying "I'm not worried about Hughes development". Of course they aren't. Why would they be?

Zadinas point totals arent great but his primary point totals paint a totally different picture. I'm too busy to look it up right now but his primary production was really high end but then he only averaged a secondary assist once every 5 games or so I believe. Now obviously part of that is that hes a shooter first and foremost, but the oddsthat you produce a lot morep rimary assists compared to secondary assists seems like a weird stroke of luck to me that can vary more season to season.

Hes on the right track and if youre stat watching look into his primary vs secondary. It will ease your mind a lot on him

Well others (mostly non-RW HF posters) are worried. If anyone on here says "Hughes is going to struggle because his speed is overrated and without it he's too weak for the pro game. He's just a product of this uber talented NTDP class" Devils fans will then say that they're not worried (I obviously don't actually think those things Devils, don't worry, Hughes will be great). I'm not worried about Zadina, but he didn't have the year a lot of people expected. If you're not paying attention, him doing less than expected would make you worried about his development, so people that didn't watch him in GR and such are worried- that's fair. Most Wings fans, either blinded by bias or because we've stayed more informed, are not. Here's my reasoning:

In juniors before his draft I saw a bit more force and strength to his game. Czechs frequently have that feistyness taught to them and Zadina has some, and in the Q it made him look stronger than he is. As someone without great wheels (they're not bad or anything), trying to play pros in your D+1 is tough and I expected his physicality to help him deal with that. I thought he'd spend a good bit of time with the Wings (40+ games) and produce at a 25g/50p pace (over 82 games of course). He wasn't ready for that because he's physically weaker than I expected-last year's combine revealed that somewhat, but I never really trust that over the eye test.

So because he's weaker than I thought, he wasn't ready to put up the season I expected and spent the year in GR learning to be a better all around player and to stand up to the rigors of the pro-game. It was a good development year and he really progressed well, but still not what we hoped for. I have to adjust my short-term expectations accordingly. Before last draft I thought Zadina could enter the 2019-20 season ready to pot 30+. I don't expect that this year. Instead I'm looking for that same 25g/50p pace, 40+ game rookie season. He still might not be ready for that honestly.

But that doesn't really change how I'm projecting him long-term. I don't worry that he'll never be strong enough to play against men, and I expect he'll get a little faster too. So I know he can handle that aspect of things eventually. It's never what made him special though. Zadina is special because of his shot first, and if you cheat on it he's got great hands to dangle you and the vision to hit a teammate with a pass. Add in his ultra-competitiveness and you have a special player. Put him with a good playmaker (The Detroit Red Wings are proud to select Zegras/Dach) and he'll put up a lot of goals someday. I'm not worried, I do feel the need to clarify that because he fell short of expectations, but I'm honestly not worried.

Well there you go. Point taken.

1 g in first 5 gp, -5, being outscored by multiple defensemen in the same league taken after him. His AHL production so far has been very mediocre. Safe to say disappointment to this date?

Frustrating, yes. Bust, no. He may not reach his hype on draft day but he's still got plenty of time.

You really think those defensemen are still going to be outscoring him after 30 games or so? 5 game sample sizes mean nothing.

How has he played? Are his stats a good indicator of his game right now?

He's looked good and has had a lot of chances, just hasn't been able to capitalize on them. Griffins have been having a hard time getting offense, especially on the power play. He's looked faster this season and finishing his checks more as well as doing a good job on zone entries on the PP. Hopefully the points will come soon.

I think Zadina would be closer to the NHL right now if he would have been sent back to junior last year. Coach Veilleaux turned every one of the kids playing for him last year into more complete players. Defensive plays and break outs got that team to the Memorial Cup finals. Zadina missed out on that and I think his overall game lacks that a bit. Only my opinion but I believe he could have went right to the Wings line up from the Q. Glad he looks stronger and faster. He’s a great prospect.

3 points and 1 goal in 8 games. I don’t think he goes top 10 in a redraft

TBH Grand Rapids isn't very well coached right now. They're struggling to score despite having a very skilled group with good supporting veteran pieces. Wouldn't be surprised if they go with another coach at some point this season.
They are scoring 3.6 goals per game wtf is this excuse lol
