Believe it or not, there are still some Sens fans who aren't ready yet to take the "giant leap" and say that we made the right choice by taking Tkachuk over Zadina at #4 - even when considering all of the off ice stuff that Brady has done to help repair the damage to the Sens franchise, and the fact that hes already being hailed as our future captain.

I still think Zadina can end up being a player, maybe even a really good one some day. But the enormous amount of internal backlash that we saw when he was passed over was just further proof that the arm chair scouts of the Hfboards are clueless more often than not.

Haven't seen him this season in the AHL but in the preseason game I saw with Detroit he just looked slow and weak. A disappointing pick so far. If him and Rasmussen flail, Detroit's rebuild is in trouble. You really can't afford to miss two top 10 picks like that.

Where those 2 were picked they dont need to be world beaters but yeah at least one needs to become a top 6 player or it really hurts the rebuild. Given predraft hype, if Zadina only becomes a 60 point player it will be disappointing but at 6th overall thats not hurting the rebuild. Getting that quality of player in the top 3 would really hurt.

The wings need to get a Lafreniere or Byfield with a legit top pick and have a Zadina or Rasmussen become the solid, top 6 player for them to play with. I think the way both Rasmussen and Zadina are trending that at least one becomes a good top 6 player.

Hey look, Habs fans talking shit about Zadina... What a surprise. I'm sure you both have seen him play a lot this season. He actually looks better than he did last year, I'm expecting the points to come soon.

How long before we can call him Filip Bustina?

Another 2-3 years min, hes literally still a teenager. IMO he should have been back with Halifax last year but that argument has been beaten to death. His shot was arguable the best I had seen in the Q and he was strong as an ox, but his skating was average for jr player and his positioning on D was questionable.

There were definitely things he could have been working on to become a truly dominant player there before moving on to the pro game, but here we are.

He really improved his defensive play last year.

Imo, his biggest flaw is that he tries to do too much on the ice.

Also, while his shot is good, instead of straight shooting he needs to change his angles to beat better goalies.

he doesn't look faster at all, give your head a shake if you think he is playing better this year

I’ve watched every single game of his this season and every single shift and I can clearly notice a difference in his overall game compared to last season. He’s gotten better defensively, especially in his forechecking. He’s also stronger on the puck and seems more willing to throw his body around. Definitely an improvement from last year. He’s not perfect, and he’s still got some stuff to work on such as getting into spots to use his shot. It’s early in the season, and the team is still building chemistry.

Coming from someone who hasn't seen him play 1 full game this season.
You don't need to downplay Zadina in order for you to feel better about your future 2c Kotkaniemi.

They are scoring 3.6 goals per game wtf is this excuse lol
They've actually scored the last 2 games. But even then, they're all the AHL veterans... so, yeah. The Veleno-Zadina line isn't playing a ton.

You can't windwall me, sir.

But, yeah. I very much think Zadina needed to go back to major junior last year. The way his development has gone since the draft has not been flattering. It's like all of his strengths have disappeared.

He started falling (relatively speaking) January in his draft year, I was surprised he was taken as high as he was, and was shocked he went before Dobson (most I talked to had Dobson #1 out of the Q by the midway point of the season).

He likely has the most skill, especially in scoring, of the forwards taken after Svechnikov, but he has the most work to put that together in an NHL style game.

those late birthday draft picks....always a little extra risk

Definitely agree with this. Hes a guy who it seems like has to put it all together but the potential is sky high if he does. I kinda am expecting him to make the NHL kinda low on the depth chart and after 2 or 3 seasons really take off. Hopefully Detroit gives him time and doesnt sell low on him if hes struggling for a bit, I kinda see him similar to Mantha in that way. Lots of things that need to come together but once they do (and build some confidence) they'll be really solid players.

He was a no draft for me at #3. Watching him in juniors gave me Drouin vibes but not in a good way. He was very passive with average skating and below average defence. Didn't like his IQ at all. He was always coasting and is one of those players that waits to get the puck instead of getting it himself. That just doesn't fly at the NHL level. It took 6 years for Drouin to finally figure that out. Unlike Drouin however, his raw skills weren't out of this world.

I always thought that Zadina after a couple years in the minors will turn into an NHL player very much similar to Nazem Kadri.

I literally explained it in my post. talented player who waits to get the puck instead of getting it himself. I didn't say they played the same way, but they have the same attitude.

Rasmussen's having a fantastic season so far. He suffered big time from the NHL/CHL agreement, in that he wasn't good enough to be in the NHL last year, but was too good for the CHL.

End of the day, I think Rasmussen probably isn't as skilled as a successful Top 10 pick, but his size and demand for that role gives him the Top 10 value.
