Super talented player...

in terms of talent in this draft he is definitely in the top 5.

Russian factor and lack of production in KHL will scare teams.

Would not be surprised at all if he goes top 3 in a redraft 5 years from now.

Are the risks associated with picking him being overblown? How likely is it an NHL team has an issue getting him on their team 2-3 years from now?

Never know till ya know. MN thought that they might be able to bring over Khusnutdinov next year, but he signed a new deal in the KHL, making it his D+5 year before there is even the possibility of him being in the NHL.

I haven't researched most of the prospects yet, but based on what I just saw in a Yurov highlight video I want my team (Isles) to take him at #13 if he's available. I feel like I'm watching a young Kucherov.

Wasn't Yurov a possible top 10 pick a few months back?
Sure. As are many players. I know there are extenuating circumstances(lack of TOI), but him not scoring at all in the KHL since that ranking can't just be ignored, especially as there are other players doing really well and showing improvement.

Podkolzin was ranked very highly for the longest time, and was considered a steal at #10.

Throw in a war, and worries about access and reactions to Russian players from some owners/GM's, and it's quite easy to see a team take a Cutter Gauthier/Lekkerimaki/ Nazar/Mateychuk over him.

mainly because any of them can be on a roster right away and don't have an issue with rights or such, while Yurov has the crux of being a Russian held with his rights by a KHL franchise. Yurov does have talent, but factoring in a war with Ukraine doesn't help him, nor does it help anyone where we see some players under scrutiny as well

A lot of shit going on, so there's an argument to be made to drop him down a few spots for sure. But if he ends up falling into the 20s, that's just a gift to the perennial playoff teams that make a living profiting off stupid decisions by other clubs drafting mistakes.

If he ends up getting drafted by a team like Tampa, Toronto, Blues, or Rangers, it would be 100% frustrating.

What's the source on that Laskov quote? It's not the tweeted article. I'm curious to see if the BUF aspect was instead "I think he will be..." or something of that sort.

Yeah, that didn't help with the context like I had hoped.

I interpret the latter part to mean no MHL or VHL for Yurov this upcoming season.
Yeah, the latter part is clear, but as for the first part maybe it is because it is now 11PM in Magnitogorsk and they already showed the draft in that time zone. :D

So what's his contract situation like? Assuming Kaprizov isn't in Jail, Wild need him to start speaking sweet nothings into his ear asap so he doesn't extend(or keeps any extension at like a year).

What I read is that his contract goes through 2022-23. If possible, the Wild may want to bring him over then, but if he signs another 2 year contract in Russia it wouldn't be the end of the world. He'll be 21, and I doubt he'd play in Minnesota before then anyway.
