He played 20 playoff games and had 4 goals and was a -5.
If you're actually a Gopher fan you should be well aware he has one of the best shots to come out of college the last 15 years and he will score a ton of goals in both the regular season and playoffs.

I'm not sure that is or rather should be the expectation for him though. He has a chance to be a very good scoring winger in the NHL but I doubt he'll be carrying the mail. Very few players his size/position do (Patrick Kane and MSL are a couple that come to mind).

I dont think it should be the expectation for him either, but theres plenty of people saying hes a first overall in a redraft future superstar in this thread. Someone replied to my post and said hes more Patrick Kane than Johnny Gaudreau despite the fact that Johnny hockey has put up almost 100 points and finished top 6 in league scoring before.

You have to be an all timer like Kane and MSL to be the guy on championship calibre teams if youre a small winger who really only does stuff offensively. I dont think Caufield is that guy

So whats been going in with this kid? This thread was bumping during their run to the finals but has been radio silence since.

I think you’re going to see every player in Montreal look terrible this season, almost like a Buffalo last season.

It will be tough enough for even proven vets like Petry to tread water, let alone 20 year old boys.

Habs as a team have scored four goals in five games. You probably understand that even for the worst team ever in the league that's not sustainable. Not that Caufield has been playing well or anything, he's still learning that his junior moves won't work at the NHL level. But I wouldn't look too much into the point totals for anyone on the Habs right now.

How does he look overall (disregarding lack of points)?

He looks like a struggling nhl scorer. He's skating well, but there's no chemistry in the team right now. He obviously is still getting outmuscled and not very good defensively, but not a total liability either.
He's still able to get some shots off, however he's not getting much opportunity on the PP. Seems like the strategy doesn't revolve around Caufield scoring ability...

I thought he didn't look as bad as others. He has been robbed a few times and hit the post too. His energy isn't too bad either, he has been going harder the last 2 games, but he can't win puck battles yet. I think the god awful start is taking its toll on CC, he looks like he's trying too much out there right now, and I can't fault him. Toffoli and Suzuki have been absolutely terrible too. It's only 5 games in, I still think he's doing most things right, you can't fault a 20 year old rookie for the way the whole team has played. Him, Hoffman and Anderson are the only ones generating anything at the moment.

TLDR : not looking good, but not a disaster like the rest of the team.

Inconsistent, I would say. Really good in moments, struggling with his play away from the puck. He looks like a young player struggling with the lack of time and space and defensive responsibility - but I think his linemates are also struggling - overall, I wouldn't be worried at all.

Just gotta convince him that the opposing goalie has his Lucky Charms. That’ll set a fire under his ass for sure.

He's been awful. Even in the Montreal forum, where he's been a mini-god since he was drafted, posters are saying how bad he's playing.
I think you're being too harsh, he still handles the puck well, although he rushes plays. I'm confident he'll adjust. He is the only forward with Anderson that has had a few, clean shots IMO (which is downright embarassing to say lmfao). He skates well, he hustles harder, he's made some good passes, like the one to Gally last game, nobody else on this team has made a pass that was even close to that one (which is, again, f***ing embarassing).

on a hot streak it is the prospect showing his true potential. once the losing starts, it's the team dragging down the players.

He just kind of looks like what I expected before he signed. He is still a top prospect but he isn't...or should be a plug in and play on your top line type of prospect. He needs development time and he isn't exactly getting that. Not as good as he was being talked up in the post season/pre season and not as bad as people will likely say now. But having said that Montreals player development has been pretty suspect the last number of years and they need to be pretty god damn careful they don't screw this one up too.

Send him to AHL if you want get him going. It is obvious that he cannot handle top6 role at NHL momentarily. Montreal can’t develop talent. Compared to other same age players like Lafreniere Lundell and Kakko his maturity is not at the same level.

looked good last night, just think some were over thinking it as he showed in the playoffs he was one of our best players. The Habs took a bit hit in the leadership department and the entire team has looked like shit to start the season where just about nothing went right. He'll be fine imo.

Definitely. Scorers can't score without a proper amount of looks. The team was playing so bad that there were very few offensive chances. What can you do in that situation. The lack of goals have nothing to do with lack of scorers. It has to do with lack of cohesive play and lack of quantity of opportunities.

I like the idea of breaking up the Suzuki-Caufield duo though. They can put them back together later, but for now, let's not make the youngster feel the pressure of being the top offensive guy on the team when the team isn't clicking.
