Not sure how he got an assist on the 1st wideman goal.

but good on him to constantly be around the puck. Man his forecheck is amazing.
Did it ricochet off a leg? Looks on first glance like it hit him, looks on the replay like it may not have but maybe I'm blind because the announcer said it did.

Tkachuk is amazing. He’s very skilled, but also has the size and play style to use that size. A valuable player even when not scoring.

I'll admit I was definitely wrong about doubting him.

I honestly never quite understood where all the doubt from so many Hfboards posters came from? Was it solely his college freshman stats?

From my own personal standpoint, every single viewing that I've had of the kid, which would be the WJC, rookie camp, and the games up til now, and Brady Tkachuk just has "it".

There's like an aura around him, and you just know he's going to be a special player. The puck seems to follow this guy, and your always going to find him at the net (or going full steam ahead towards it).

And like or not, his last name does count for something when trying to project how he might turn out as a pro (and his name is as good as gold in the NHL).

People assumed that he was overrated due to his family name and that the fact that he was tough and physical meant that he wasn’t skilled. The most hilarious thing to me is that this forum goes wild over the WJC, and yet he got no love for his 9 points in 7 games last winter. And yeah, there were “concerns” about his freshman goal totals by people who’d never watched him at BU.

They assumed he was the Lawson Crouse, Michael Rasmussen, Mikey McLeod of this draft. Hell, Matthew had a lot of doubters who, once he established himself as a can’t-miss youngster, shifted their concerns to Brady, claiming that Matthew was just so much more skilled at the same age, and waved around Matthew’s production against Brady’s as though the fact that Matthew played with Auston Matthews in the NTDP (Brady played with Josh Norris) and Christian Dvorak/Mitch Marner in the OHL had no effect on his numbers.

Tkachuk is a beast. Kotkaniemi is a legit. Hughes looked filthy this summer. Every year we go through this exercise of slowly, slightly admitting that team scouts have valid opinions (despite what we read in an Athletic article)

Let's see how the season plays out, he likely has lows/hits a wall. But not hard to imagine Brady as a premiere power winger in the league + a focal point for the Senators team. Very happy with the pick.

if Ottawa took Zadina instead, does anyone believe the Yotes still take Hayton over Brady?

Doubt it. I suspect he was more highly sought after than HFBoards would lead you to believe. From what I have read/heard, most teams did in fact have him in the top 5.

His brother had the same hate, and everyone changed their tune very quickly.

Matthew won in a poll of player most likely to bust pretty overwhelmingly too.
Yep, gotta say I was dead wrong on both. I thought Matthew would become another Ferland-type. Keeping in mind that it was 2016, so he was just becoming noticed around here (Vancouver).
Brady, I had pegged in a group with Wahlstrom, and Dobson in the 8-9-10 spots, thought there was physical second line upside. His first few games have made me think about reconsidering.

For me, it wasn't about him not being one without the other. I knew he has a more complete package, I just wasn't sure how far it could take him. I understood the allure of what he brought in addition to the skill and toughness, but leadership and those intangibles you can't quantify and thought that was more the reason (that he brought everything to the table) some were talking about him being as high as 3

Yeah things can still change. I didn't think he'd be in the NHL and I was wrong, but everything happening with Ottawa and trades kind of shifted things.

I didn't have an opinion on Matthew in his draft year as I only saw some memorial cup didn't really know, But i just remember that annual poll which was deleted after the site switched formats and he won quite handily.
Brady was the one I saw A LOT of and he was great. I said earlier in the thread he had such strong possession and generation and offense, and you had to consider his rock bottom shooting percentage which could only go up.

he is just so damn good....another goal right in the dirty area...has been hitting and pissing off all the Stars tonight - BUT WHAT ABOUT HIS COLLEGE STATS????????????

Im completely blown away right now with his play. He had one shift where he could have had another 2 beautiful goals that Bishop robbed him on earlier. Both of them 1ft outside the crease.

This Sens fan has a new favorite player. He's so damn aggressive and plays a rambunctious and high skill game all over the ice.

Its a pure joy to watch simply because we've never had anything quite like this before in Ottawa. Hell of a player, and its scary to think that he's only 19 years old right now.

the one timer he got off right in front of Bishop I think which Tierney fed him was absolute impressive how quick his release was...this is the type of player he has been, enjoy him because you guys look good right now and deserve something to smile about in Ottawa. I really liked both kids on the point tonight in Lajoie and Chabot...both looked real real good. And my boy Logan Brown hopefully can step up and get a spot second half with the Sens...better days will be ahead for Ottawa.

Thanks man and yeah its like the hockey gods had said enough with the pissing on Ottawa fans, and answered our prayers for hope with Brady and the gang.

Im also a huge believer in Logan Brown. But beyond him we also have Batherson, Chlapik, and Balcers all ripping up the AHL so far as well. Not too mention Colin White looking sharp in the NHL as well.

The future doesn't look very glum all of a sudden. Who would have thunk it even as early as 2 months ago?

Lol thanks man, hoping no one remembered that. No Im a Sens fan. My moms got stage 4 cancer and Im a little emotional these days, and say some crazy things from time to time (this isnt to make you feel bad either).

But having said that, I have no shame in tuning into the leafs games these days, when the Sens arent playing. As a fan of hockey, its something to behold.

Lol, I’m just poking fun.

It’s been emotional.
