Not very noticeable, had trouble staying in position and sometimes fell behind the play. Typical first game from most rookies I guess.

Yep. Nothing unusual about a rookie being out of place and behind the play in their first handful of games. Didn’t help he was coming fresh off a groin injury either.

I think as the game went on, he got a little more comfortable, physical and got in a scrum or two. His net front presence was noticeable a few times. He battles in the front of the net well for a skinny teenager and has good instincts for puck protection and in the corners.

If he keeps getting played in the top 6, and after 9 games he’s just not up to speed, I think junior could help him fine tune his offensive game. It’s not a real failure if he gets sent down.

Since his thread is active, I thought this was an interesting quote from Lebrun's piece on what would like happen if MTL traded their 3rd in a package for ROR.

LeBrun Notebook: Revisiting the draft if Ryan O’Reilly...

And so the question is, which player would the Sabres have taken with the No. 3 overall pick, had it played out that way with Montreal?
Brady Tkachuk, that’s who, according to a source.

Hate this kid got after being put in a misused role at BU due to Greenway being the netfront guy and never played with an elite center was ridiculous. I'm going to hate him in the NHL (due to his play-style and he plays for a huge rival), but this stuff was predictable to those who paid attention. I don't think he'll put up 3 points every game, but there is no reason he can't be a 60 to 70 point winger who helps a high-end center a lot. The middle-six kid, who is only anywhere because of his name, and "old-school gms" narrative around him was ridiculous.

This says it all. There are only a handful of people on here that were high on this kid. I had him 4/5 in my rankings predraft and I am more lenient towards 4 in a redraft at this point.

Another rookie from from this rookie class contending for a Calder. So much talent and so many good young players in this class it's crazy

awesome work. I remember you were the only one of few praising him long before the draft lottery, when a lot of people was questioning his 8 goal season and their overall doubts of him being a top 5 prospect.

zadina has nothing to his arsenal besides his elite shot. the kid needs to be fed or else he disappears.
He has amazing hands overall which I would classify different than his shot, a willingness to drive the net and is quite smart. Not that explosive, but has good agility, and plays fast due to having good hands. It is more than just an elite shot. Does he project as a guy who all around drives a 1st NHL line? Probably not in my eyes, but it also isn't fully out of the question.

I actually love Tkachuk, but that first goal be kicked...

The above assessment is correct. This kid is gonna be solid.

I was one of those who wasn't especially high on Tkachuk, have to admit, that was a slick goal for rookie coming into the league

Yet. He isn't most physically mature kid out there. NHL-readiness and potential are very different things.

but... but... but... they passed on Zadina...

Two weeks into each players first D+1 season is clearly enough time to make judgement about players.
Players like Zacha and Virtanen scored in their first few games too. Maybe Tkachuk does become the better player, but this post is hilariously premature, especially given the difference in physical maturity.
