F Andrew Cristall - Kelowna Rockets, WHL (2023, 40th, WSH)

Probably not the greatest guy to be compared to but impressive that nobody’s done this in 25 years
I mean, not really? The truly elite offensive forwards aren't spending their D+2 year in juniors. Some not even their D+1 year. So it's a rare tweener-combination of a player who's obviously great at the junior level, but their overall profile isn't that of someone ready to make the jump.

The whole point is he is a “prolific scorer” at the junior level and the team Canada team who had trouble scoring didn’t take him.

I think if you don't count the pp shift, Cristall plays the fewest shift among Chiefs' top6 forward. Chiefs always play Catton-Van Olm as the last shift in the PK, so the first line will miss the next 5on5 shift.
Chiefs still need to figure out what they want to see from Cristall, and now their use of him is not worth the price they are paying for him.

He’s got over 2 points a game with the them though. It seems like they are getting their money’s worth.

85 pts in 37 G?...How is that even possible if you're not good enough for the NHL right now ? (at least Caps think so). I feel like if there's no right trade on hands come the deadline, they should bring up Leonard and Cristall when their teams' runs are over and sit some of their passengers for the playoffs.

Will be exciting to follow him vs McKenna and Misa for top CHL scorer. Hope McKenna gets it cause he's D-1 but should be a good race.

89 points in 38 games so far this season.

387 points in 215 WHL games overall.

Needs 13 more points to crack 400 and move into top-25 WHL in all-time points.

30 points away from top-20 all-time, he has 19 games left. 40 points in 19 games would put him in the top-14.

Should be a close race.

Misa with 2.00 PPG, McKenna with 2.10 PPG and Cristall with 2,34 PPG.

Misa and Saginaw Spirit have 3 games more than Medicine Hat Tigers and 1 more game left than Spokane Chiefs.

McKenna have really turned it up lately, but seem like Cristall playing with Catton is generating a lot of points so with two extra games for Cristall over McKenna he is the favourite. Misa can do it, but the others have been puting up more points lately.

How impressive is it for a 20 year old, 2nd round pick to be dominating in the CHL? Just wondering about recent comparables.

Stankoven was a 2nd round pick who put up a similar great PPG in the W as at age 19 and 20.

Cristall just turned 20 a few days ago.

Cristall's current 2.38PPG is the highest D+2 season in the WHL over the last 15 seasons, surpassing Matt Savoie, who had 2.09PPG in his D+2 (15GP min.). Based on his production, I think he's very likely to be a top-6 W for most of his NHL career. After the WHL, he will likely play 40 to 100 games in the AHL, then go on to the NHL.

I've made this comparison before, but he reminds me of Mike Ribeiro. Ribeiro was also a 2nd rounder that dominated the CHL but it took a few years before he would be productive in the NHL.

Even the way he skates and plays reminds me of him. I think they will have similar careers.

Remember that Cristall almost made Washington out of training camp. Given the caps are maybe the best team in the league, how many other teams would he have made if he were with a different organization?
