Looked to me like the Quebec guy really tried to sell it, looked unconscious at first until Lafreniere was kicked out, then got right up on his own. Haven’t seen an injury reported.

Regardless, that was a poorly timed hit. Personally wouldn’t have suspended it but seems to be the way things are going now

That was basic hit to the head with the elbow up. The league wouldn't have looked good not giving him at least a couple of games. He did the same thing previsouly this season and didn't get suspended. 2 games suspension was the next step.

That’s basically what I was saying yes. I think it was majorly sold and not nearly as bad as it “looked” as there was very little force behind it, but definitely poorly timed and the league has been suspending these type of plays

I don't agree on the majorly sold, he stayed down on the ice for 10 seconds. He received an elbow to the face and didn't see it coming, I think his reaction was very normal in this case...

Im not doubting it hurt a bit, but to lay motionless on the ice like you’re unconscious until Lafreniere gets the call? Maybe I just assume everyone dives now because it’s so prevalent in today’s game

That looks like a hit to the shoulder to me. Not a suspension worthy play at all.

Lafrenière got called right away, you just don't see it on the video.

I don't say nobody dives but I'd say most of the time it is more about the fear of being hurt seriously than anything else. Lafrenière's reaction at the WJC after being hurt is a good example of that. He said himself it was fear that made him react like that, so did Caron this morning.

That looks like a hit to the shoulder to me. Not a suspension worthy play at all.

I don't know why anybody would say it wasn't a hit to the head. Even the Rimouski organization says it was one, the kind of hit the league tries to get rid of and that Lafrenière will learn from it. I don't think it was that severe but it clearly deserved some discipline. You add it to the fact that it was the second time this season he threw his elbow to the face of an opponent.

Anyway, at this point of the season, his suspension might be a blessing in disguise for Rimouski. That guy has played a lot of hockey this year and they need him well rested for the playoffs and maybe the Memorial Cup.

Looks to me like he was trying to go for a pretty standard shoulder-to-shoulder hit, not an overly hard one either, and accidentally made some head contact. Doesn’t look malicious at all to me, wouldn’t be a suspension in the NHL. With that being said, I’m fine with that being a suspension in the CHL, where there’s much more emphasis on protecting players (as there should be).

Yeah, he looked like he was playing possum to me.

There was a time, not long ago, players did everything they could to get to the bench after getting hurt on the ice. Guys had too much pride to be seen laying there.

That was a dirty hit, worthy of the 3 games based on past precedent, but unless you are knocked out, get up and skate to the bench

Look fair to me. The fact that they give a suspension over this is telling players it is ok to play with your head down.

I get why it is a suspension in the CHL, but I don't like the message it sends.

Worthy of 3 games. You could also ask was it smart to hit that guy. He clearly wasn't ready to get hit and Alexis comes from angle where he doesn't see.

But i also think he was trying to hit shoulder to shoulder and he doesn't have that much speed. It isn't super dirty, but suspension worthy anyway.

Maybe one day the NHL will be more serious about that kind of contact. With everything we know now about hits to the head (and everything we still don't know), it should already be enforced. Every contact over the neck should be suspension worthy, even if players have their head down.

CHL put more emphasis on it because they are teenagers and for most of them it will be over after their junior career but even you get paid millions, health should be the main focus.

Are you saying he shouldnt have touched the guy because he was looking for the puck in between his legs while skating forward in the middle of the ice?

At some point people decided that the onus of protecting the player being hit was not whatsoever on the player themself, but entirely on the player throwing the hit.

Skate with your head down, don't look where you're going, show your opponent your numbers, and if you get hurt, blame others.

Of course, everybody knows players prefer being hurt and blaming others rather than protecting themselves.
