No, Montreal needs him the most IMO. It's not good for the league to have one of it's flagship operations floundering for decades now., especially one that basically needs a homegrown star to have it going at it's highest level in terms of drama and excitement. We all know the ebbs and flows of franchises in todays league especially with the introduction of the salary cap but having Montreal be a serious contender again is long overdue and needs to happen both for the league and fans. They have been bad/middle of the pack long enough, it's way past due for them to be real good again. They have cache value few other franchises in this league have and more classic Boston-habs matchups are needed and ditto for a long overdue Leafs-Habs clash. It's just best for the game at this point if Montreal gets up and running as a serious contender again with a French Canadian superstar leading the charge. The habs are universally loved and hated.......................them going so long not being a real factor just sucks regardless of what side of the fence you sit on with them as a fan of NHL hockey. Even for the fans who despise them, how do you keep up that hate if they are never really any good?

Yes, Montreal needs him the most. The Habs are a brand.................they have to become relevant as a contender once again. I mean, what is the NFL without the green bay Packers ever being a contender? it's just not as good or the same.

Montreal fans deserve him and then some but Bergevin and Molson certainly don't.

Maybe so but then Toronto and Edmonton management and ownership didn't deserve their gifts either. And I have not seen anything out of detroit management lately that suggest they deserve anything either.

But point taken, Bergy and Molson are bad, really bad. Montreal fans know only too well.

Um, I am pretty sure that is not winning the lottery as they were just that bad that year, and drafted where they should have, 3rd overall. So that's funny coming from the team that drafted right after us at 4th, and the better player so far to boot in Tackchuk. Furthermore

Ottawa: has had 2nd pick in 2001, 1st overall in 1996, 1st in 1995, 3rd in 1994, 1st in 1993, 2nd in 1992 ( this all in a 28-year time span)

Montreal: 3rd 2012, 1st 1980,1st 1971 ( this in a 50-year time span!)

I rest my case. Should be rigged at this point to make it fair for the Habs to win 1st for once.
You say that again but for Ottawa after the shit we went through ,fan base is pissed in Ottawa we are dead last in attendance due to our f***en deadbeat owner...Have a arena deal just waiting to happen, but wont ...Montreal doesnt deserve him over us screw that

Detroit to DC to Chicago
Montreal can f*** off, blame Bergevin for committing to mediocrity instead of rebuilding properly. Enjoy another undersized LW/C hybrid in the mid-first.

On another note, how would you rank

Eichel

Matthews

Dahlin

Lafreniere

Imo those are the four best propsects post-McDavid, but I'm interested to hear what others think. You can add Hughes/Svech/Kakko/etc. if you want.

Going to jinx it.

I'd like to see him go to a market that deserves him, so an Ottawa or Detroit, but I'd also like to see french-canadians get a home grown star again, so Montreal would be cool to see.

I want Montreal to get the pick.

Then Bergevin can move him to center like he does with all the top line wingers he adds all so he can avoid acquiring an actual center.

Who the hell cares who “deserves” a pick more...? No one will agree, it’s a pointless conversation, and completely irrelevant. The NHL couldn’t care less and it’ll probably be some team who finishes like 20th who wins the lotto anyways.

Can we get back on topic now?

Again, I don't agree.I gave my reasons why I think Montreal is the market that needs him the most.

You don't fancy that, that's fine, but I remain unmoving in my position.
Montreal doesn't, though. It's a thriving market that will do great regardless. The team doesn't even have to be good. There are numerous teams who need him far more than Montreal does.

But it does, both for us as fans and the market itself, I gave all my reasons why.

I am thinking of different reasons then you why it would make the most sense for Montreal to land him, you don't agree with those reasons and I don't agree with why you don't think montreal should land him.

Seems we are at a standstill here.

Maybe you are one of the logical, hockey knowledgeable Montreal fans, but living in Montreal, I can tell you most Habs fans don’t deserve a first overall pick. For the most part, they are the most arrogant and language bias fans in any sports franchise. Yes the GM and the owner are trying to push for a playoff spot instead of rebuilding, but that’s due to heat from the media, season ticket holders and THE FANS.

again, maybe you are one of the good ones which I applaud you for, but the team who finishes dead last should 99/100 times deserve the first overall pick.

Whoever gets this kid will be extremely lucky though. He’s a future star in the making.
