I can say with 100% certainty that he's at least registered at UofM now (students have access to each other's email addresses on gmail and his name comes up).
Ertel had an email at Cornell too!
My original post was just troll anyways. A pipe dream to have him in North Bay

i see people talking about the turnover...the kid was one of Canadas best players in a tournament for players getting drafted this year...I think IMO and many many years of scouting and watching hockey that this kid to me proved he is a special talent...kid with that size, excellent skating and what i found impressive was he is a goal scorer and did a good job setting guys up in the series...he moved well on the ice and was always involved....his IQ is great, the kid made some mistakes but a short tournament does not prove anything, the team is thrown together, no one has chemistry and the kid was one of the best players playing against guys older than him...he is going to be an amazing prospect and a bigger prospect than someone said above a Dubois...I scouted Dubois at that age, watched him all through the QMJHL, Fantilli is better than Dubois...Fantilli is not a blow your mind, stick handle through the whole team guy, but his skills blow me away.
He was an '04 playing against primarily '04s (with a few '05s in there)

Do people think he has a chance to have an Eichel-like impact in his one year in college? Or is he a notch below that?
At this current time, his toolbox is roughly similar to Jacks but his production was slightly less in the USHL. I'd say he has that potential but I'd be very surprised if he had that kind of year. A lot would have to go right.

No, it isn't. Not even that close.

Eichel was a tier or two ahead of Fantilli at the same point.

He's definitely at least a notch below that.

I would expect him to be anywhere from 1.0 - 1.2 PPG at Michigan.
Beniers 24 points in 24 games his freshman season at the same age as a late birthday playing his draft year in college hockey would be a realistic target.

I think Fantilli is a better offensive player than Beniers at the same age.

Fantilli is looking like an absolute beast. Definitly think he is a guy who would go 1st overall in many draft years.

As far as Eichel caliber 1OA, I'll reserve my judgement until we see how things play out this year. Those are pretty big shoes but Fantilli has some seriously serious talents and potential.

This draft is just insane at the top.

I see him as a way more advanced version of Scheifele. Big boy with just a terrific all-around offensive skill set who can sometimes fade in and out on the 200’ intensity and decision making front.

That’s still a potential franchise center. He’s gonna pile up points no matter where he is playing.

I agree. I think he falls somewhere between Eichel and Beniers but closer to Beniers

It'll be interesting to see how scouts view Fantilli. His progression has slowed, whereas a guy like Beniers was rapidly progressing at the same age. A draft year is huge regardless, but I think Fantilli is going to be under a bigger microscope than most.

100% on Beniers. Super impressive in his NHL debut, small sample but some guys hit the NHL and are just no-doubters. I think he can definitely be a 1C, maybe not a top 10 guy but the thing I love is that he seems to be better at every step up. I’m hesitant to cap his ceiling too quickly.

Pretty identical USHL/U18 numbers to Matthew Tkachuk in his D-1. Both were also late birthdays.

There has been some great freshman seasons
like take Kyle Connor

Technically Connor had a better freshman season statistically than Eichel but the conference was dog shit and he feasted on weak teams and they got slaughtered round 1 out conference

depends on the strength of conference

People seem to have forgotten how good Eichel was. There’s a reason he was considered on par with mcdavid by some. Fantilli isn’t close.
I for one never considered Eichel on par with McDavid. In only a few short viewings I don't see Fantilli as the same type of player as Eichel or his equal at the moment. That can certainly change and I reserve judgement. My impression now of Fantilli is of more power and aggression with the puck than Eichel.

Eichel has a very powerful skating stride, although Fantilli could be physically stronger.

I saw few games in u18 and his performance was disappointment imo. Effort level and doing winning decisions with puck was poor. Small sample size though.

No question of the powerful skating stride. I haven't seen Eichel play in at least two seasons but I remember a perimeter player that should use that gift more driving to the net with the puck. I'm fully open to the possibility that he is no longer that player I describe. Hopefully his physical problems are in the past and Vegas gets their money's worth.
