Eichel is going to be a great player and probably would go first overall in most years, but McDavid is a true generational talent. People want to make a case for Eichel because it creates a better story-line like Crosby vs Ovechkin, Taylor vs Tyler, etc. But McDavid is the number 1 prospect in this draft and you don't have to see much of him to figure that out. I'm of the opinion that he is on Crosby level. I think he will be a perennial 100 point player.
I'd like to see McDavid with Virtanen.
Not a bad game for Canada. A few thoughts:
Bowey is very much a mixed bag. He seems to run around on defence a lot, but he also manages to produce some great plays offensively. Interestingly the offensive plays don't really happen due to defensive cheating. I hope that he figures out how to calm down defensively.
They need someone who can finish on McDavid's line. Some of his setups were excellent, but wasted. Ritchie is a waste on that line, while Lazar can at least contribute away from the puck. Try Fabbri or maybe Virtanen with McDavid.
Virtanen looks over qualified for his fourth line minutes, though he does provide a nice threat from that spot.
I've tried to avoid talking about him given how much crap he gets, but Gauthier really doesn't deserve even strength minutes. He's fine defensively, but he handles the puck like it's a grenade. Give him a few shifts to keep him awake between PK duties, and otherwise let him sit. They should just run McDavid, Reinhart, Petan and Paul down the middle.
Domi and Duclair look good together while Reinhart fills in the gaps.
Morrissey reminds me of a bigger, smoother Ryan Ellis without the big shot. Impressed with him.
I don't know why they are lining Petan up with Lazar and McDavid on the powerplay. McDavid is the playmaker. They should either play with a goal scorer like Virtanen, or at least a net presence like Ritchie. It doesn't make sense.
Petan has had a 46 goal season in the WHL he is no slouch in the goal scoring department. Not to mention he is dynamite at moving the puck on the PP, keeping pucks in the zone, really just dynamite on the PP in general.
Canucks fans are being torn apart for saying it, but they should give it try. Virtannen has the speed, and is also the only right handed shooting winger on the team. He's also a shoot 1st type of player, so it would be worth a try. Virtannen can also provide protective services to McDavid if needed too.
I think the issue is that line of Petan Lazar and McDavid....
that's 3 centermans. lol
Neither Lazar or Petan are unfamiliar to playing the wing, Petan's future in the NHL is likely on the wing. If that was an actual issue they wouldn't have selected a forward group that is nearly 90% centres.
Haha Ritchie 4th line![]()

still way too many passengers on this team for my liking and 1 or 3 who'll make a contribution, but that contribution won't be in a positive way. Still a lot of work to do with this team and they've done nothing over the course of the 3 pre-tourney games to warrant the odds on favorite as so determined by the Vegas bookmakers...
My prediction (wish) from the opening of camp was a Canada-USA final. I think that's the most likely outcome and I'll give the Americans slightly better odds at the moment to take it... subject to change of course as GMG approaches.
Hopefully after that I can finally get my Canada-USA junior summit series.
