I don't know why anyone was surprised it was intense. That's exactly how the the other world/Canada cups were. That's why they brought this event back, because it's been an amazing event that of course they can profit from. 96 and 87 games were maybe the most fun and intense hockey I've ever watched. I have no idea why people thought the players weren't going to play. All star games don't matter, Olympics is right in the middle of the season and a distraction.

This has always been different.

People don't like Bettman, and the two non-specific country teams are different from how things usually operate. They just wanted to get as many NHL players as possible into this thing, since it's a joint venture between the NHL and NHLPA. We'll see how Team Europe does, but Team NA seems to be one of the more interesting anomalies in recent memory.

I'm pretty upset that team USA was out there playing so chippy and physical. Sure, it probably helps them play better and get back into the game after the offseason, but I dont want to see guys getting hurt from this tournament before the season starts.

But I suppose there's no getting around it, it's hockey afterall

I saw 2 physical teams out there. Like my dad used to say, athletes tend to get hurt when they're going 1/2 speed.

Suter, Pavelski, Oshie were best U.S skaters last night.

Crosby line was Canada's best.

Suter really looked good, always shines in best on best tournaments.

I can't recall seeing that much intensity in a "meaningless" game. Hockey is back.

Thought Canada was inexplicably caught unawares by the physicality of the USA team. Experienced NHLers turning their backs on the boards to obvious incoming hits just shouldn't happen. That won't happen again tonight. I expect Corey Perry and Marchand will be hitting everything in sight, and everyone will be ready for another physical game.

Quick was fantastic. Too bad be didn't finish the game. Maybe Torts wants to play each goalie for 2 periods in these 2 games. Looking forward to seeing Schneider. Bishop can be stellar one moment, and a wandering goof the next.

Price looked ordinary. Hope it's just rust. Holtby definitely has a shot at taking the net away tonight.

We'll see a much better Canadian team tonight. The Americans deserved last night's victory, but I just don't see them winning back-to-back.
