Would be nice to see some emotion from us. Guys look so listless, just going through the motions. Deflating to watch.

Why on Earth does Marjamaki always start the powerplay with Koivu unit?
Everyone in the World knows we are going to have scoring problems and he doesn't even use his biggest pp weapon.

Both penalties USA got were drawn by Laine so that's could be a part of the reason.

What makes this even tougher to understand is that the Laine PP actually had an incredible shift. On the other hand, the entire last penalty was wasted by the useless Koivu PP.

Let's dial it back a bit. I know you are one of his biggest supporters, but how many wingers are Selke level defenders in the NHL? It's not a realistic expectation whatsoever.

No, I don't think he'll win Selke. I just said candidate.

He is just luring other teams to think koivu`s line will be the main powerplay

ESPN is doing this hockey game on the cheap as Levy and Melrose are in Bristol, CT and not Washington.

Showing once again the Worldwide Leader's deep commitment to hockey.

In this practice game after changing continents? - they are probably bloody tired it being 4am in Finland... A win would be nice, but the emphasis is getting our game organized. Luckily still time left, but the defence does look scarily shaky - well, we'll see.

I can't get over the fact that every announcer on ESPN pronounces it as both "Steppin" and "Stepan" within the space of a minute.

Jokipakka pass was truly terrible on the Stepan goal. There were far easier targets wide open.

I'd be happy if he reaches anything close to Couturier's level of defensive play to go with his offense, let alone Toews, Bergeron, Kopitar, or Datsyuk levels.

Laine playing well but Barkov isn't. He's lost most if not all of the face offs. The game when they both have the motors running is going to be sweet. I really, really don't understand what Jokinen is doing there. He's just all-around-no-good and cannot keep up with the game. The Finnish commentator was right about the team needing shuffling, but Marjamäki seems stubborn. Refusing to make the right decisions will probably lose us whatever chance we had in this tournament.

Since when did jet lag only affect defense? The offensemen have mostly looked good but the defense has been worst ever. Even on offense any time a forward passes back to a defenseman the play almost always dies.

No doubt jet lag is a factor. Still, it's a hockey game, do something - make a big hit, or send Komarov to stir **** up. I don't know how they will get their game together before the real tournament begins with this kind of disjointed team play and fragile D. Team North America is very dangerous.

I can't believe that atleast now I have to hate Marjamaki, he should just step up and tell Koivu you're not the #1C anymore, Barkov is and Laines shot is going to be used.

This slow, boring hockey is just so brutal anyways, we have Lehtinen, S.Koivu, Selanne, Timonen there in Washington, could someone say something :laugh:

Yep, I've noticed that Barkov has been bad this game as well. He's made several poor decisions and lost battles.

Actually, the whole line has been terrible apart from Laine. No one else has been able to generate anything and the chances Laine has had have been all him. Barkov also hasn't been defending properly seeing as Laine constantly has to take care of defense - isn't that the center's role?

If you don't count Lepisto, the finnish defense average age is about 23 years and Team NA average age in defense is about 22 years. If you count Lepisto it would pump up the average age of finnish D by a whopping full year. But yeah, they are the youngest defences in the tournament.

How many Finnish 23 yo or younger Ds would make Team NA?

Personally, I doubt anyone would. Maybe Ristolainen.

I don't know why but I always got the feeling that Marjamäki is afraid to speak out or make big decisions. Seems to rely too much on making compromises with his players. Not liking this at all.

Some here were wondering about the youngest defense of the tournament. I didn't find it, but I found the average age, height, weight comparison between the teams:

Age, Height (cm), Weight (kg)

Yhdysvallat=USA
P-Amerikka=Young Guns
Venäjä=Russia
Ruotsi=Sweden
