I know you're kidding but it's true. There's alot more to skating than speed. It's like saying he's good at school but sucks in Math.
Stride, balance, edge work,fluidity,etc.. Reinhart's motion and stride are good. He's got good balance, although he needs to get stronger. He is fluid, not choppy. A choppy skater would be a guy like Draisaitl. He looks like he's playing the floor is lava on the ice. He just skips about.

Reinhart just doesn't have the breakaway speed of a Duclair. The rest of his skating is fine.

i agree but speed is important for a center tho, for defensive purposes of course. its not as important for wingers.. but yea offensively skating speed doesnt give you the entire picture.
anywho speed is something you can easily improve on, unlike having hockey IQ.

I like Reinhart and his capacity to slow the play a bit and set up the offense. That's very effective on a fast line like his. He makes plays that we are not able to appreciate if we are not directly looking at him. That's probably why he has been selected 2nd overall, because the scouts looked directly at him everytime he was on the ice.

Agreed. Good little piece on Reinhart that says what you're saying:

Fair enough. I just couldn't resist. :)

Speed is important but he makes up for it with his IQ. He doesn't have to bust his ass to get somewhere because he's already read that play and he's already there.

Like I said his actual skating is fine. His motion is fine, he's not choppy, good edge work. It's not his strength but it's good. I'd give it like a B grade. His speed will only improve as he gets stronger.

I don't know why HC insists on building the team like an NHL team for an international tournament.

Crouse, Gauthier, Morin and Ritchie would all be solid NHL additions to a team, but this is a tournament based on speed and skill, not size and physicality where if you even come close to a player you get a penalty.

Ritchie on the top line is simply a black hole offensively. McDavid and Lazar are basically the only options here. Crouse looks like a big lumbering lumberjack who potentially might be Lucic type guy, but for the IIHF it's simply not needed. Morin handles the puck like a hand grenade and Gauthier skates like he has cement boots on. Absolutely no reason that Fleury and Dal Colle got passed over.

Don't even get me started on Fucale who to me is a complete bum.

If one of our offensive guys gets hurt, there really is nobody to move up to take those top minutes. Maybe Virtanen but that's it.

Reinhart looks pretty awkward out there for sure. He has the big shoulder pads, his pants are too small, the worlds biggest flop on his skates. Doesn't really have any physical tools, isn't dynamic, isn't overly fast, doesn't wow you.

He does two things at an elite level. He is an elite playmaker and has elite hockey sense. I wanted Bennett at No. 2 last year, to this day I still want Bennett. But Reinhart is going to be a top 6 center in the NHL for a long time, there was a reason scouts unanimously had him in the top 3 last year.

He's Bergeron 2.0. They're so similar.

It's easy to feel comfortable with a goalie when your team scores 5 goals but Comrie wasn't any better than Fucale. His rebounds were just as frequent and he wasn't close on the first goal. Ferraro said it was deflected but really didn't look like it on all the replays. Also almost let in a goal that hit both posts. He looked focused and confident but the whole performance was just good and not spectacular .
I think it's still even between these two. Don't think either will play every single game. First two games are against weakER teams and back to back days so I imagine they'll each start one but who knows what the coaches will do.

That's why he is the perfect guy on a line with Duclair and Domi. He can distribute the puck to the left or the right side while his two fast wingers are at top speed. So he can bring 1 or 2 opponents and create space to Domi and Duclair to accelerate, and then give them the puck.

Really? My question would be... Doesn't his lack of speed hurt his 200 foot game? I am being sincere because you know far more about him than I do. Help me understand.

He has already played in the NHL, and the speed wasn't an issue. His strength was, he needs to get stronger. His hockey sense is probably the best we have seen in a prospect in 10 years.

His 200 game is one of his main strengths. Again, his hockey sense. He just reads everything. He doesn't need skating because he's always in the right position because he's so smart.

I'll give you an example. A D-man makes a move in the offensive zone, he loses the puck and the other team goes the other way. Player A is really fast, he recognizes this and busts his ass back and stops the play developing further. Reinhart wouldn't move because he would have recognized the play happening and would have been in position to stop the counter. He can't read the future but he basically can lol.

I'm not old but I haven't seen a prospect at his level with his hockey sense not named McDavid. Brian Burke said it best, he's the Einstein of hockey.

How did he look? Again, I am being sincere. I know he only had 1 point in 9 games and that is the reason he didn't last past the 9. Did he play well?

Oh and I know it's hard to focus on him when his linemates are basically race cars out there but if you just focus on him for a couple shifts you'll see his intelligence and ability truly shine.

Reinhart is the perfect player for Domi and Duke because they can run around and he'll always be able to cover.

Fair enough. Thanks for the analysis. I hope he plays great at the WJR's.

He was just too small. His 1 point in 9 games is because Ted Nolan can't manage young forwards at the NHL level (not named Girgensons) and just sticks them on the 4th line.

He didn't look ready, he was physically immature. I image a year or two from now he is completely different player in the NHL.

I know some people were down on Domi over the course of the year - tho I wasn't sure why. I am happy to see him playing so well.

Both of you are high on him so, for all our sakes, I hope he is great at the WJR's. :thumbu:

For me it was for the reason he showed today and in the summer exhibition games. Loses his cool and then does something extremely stupid. Always aims for the head too. I like his offensive game, it's just that whole stupid penalty thing that irks me considering it's been a staple of so many losing Canadian teams.

He has his dad's temper. Hopefully, that will not come back to haunt us.
