Very glad he is off to a good start for you guys, haven't been able to catch a game yet, but I am eager to.

Why he didn't make it in Detroit...
Its a bit of a head scratcher to many of us Wing fans. I've mentioned earlier in this thread, there were nights where he looked like one of our best forwards, then he would be a healthy scratch for six or seven games. I hoped it might be conditioning issues after missing so much time, but who knows? By the end of the season, it was clear that Detroit didn't see him as part of the future.

The skill is there and he protects the puck well and has only gotten better and better with the gritty, physical side of the game. Was disappointed when Stevie gave up on him, but the silver lining is that he wound up with Winnipeg. I hope he keeps it up and earns a roster spot.

He’s getting an nhl contract here, as soon as administratively possible.

Otherwise, he would have stayed in Detroit, where they wanted him to sign a two way deal, wouldn’t he?

This is just a “seems to me” thing…

Svechnikov has been a pleasant surprise, but I think he might have some conditioning issues. He really slowed down by the third period. I guess it's not such a big deal if he's on the 4th line.

If Svechnikov keeps playing like he did yesterday he will make the team. I also saw that he was slower in the 3rd and I also think it is conditioning issues from being injured and unable to properly train, but he'll only get in better shape as the season progress. Which could make him a valuable addition to the Jets.

I think someone (Sawyer maybe) mentioned something about Maurice skating the guys hard early in the camp, and given how much the team slowed down as a whole in the third, it wouldn't surprise me if they were tired.

I may have misheard though.

That is a pretty common theme with Moe and his camps. Teams of past years have seemed to have gotten off to sluggish starts after them.

I think most of the roster is used to them now though so maybe the fatigue its more noticeable in new players to the org.

Well it's not like Detroit had a good top 6 yet never tried him there.

Maybe more an indictment of Svech and the coach both. But us giving him a shot and Detroit moving on early doesnt make them dumb. Stevie Y knows what he is doing.

Hopefully Svech can continue to impress here.

At the time of the signing, I thought I read Svechnikov had shoulder surgery in the off season but was expected to be at training camp. I would think the surgery would have impacted his training and as a result, impacted his conditioning to some degree.

That honestly makes more sense than him having a conditioning issue. I train like an mother***er for work and sometimes after a few days of hard training (ie: like their training camp would do to their body) the legs and muscles feel a heavy. Interestingly it is never a negative thing and always the catalyst to push further. So if you are correct it isn't a bad thing at all. In fact I would submit that it is a positive thing for pushing endurance baseline. These guys are pros at training so stands to reason the same physiology takes place and should set the table nicely for the regular season.

I think it's designed to pay dividends in the back part of the season.

don't know 100% on this but I think since he signed with the moose and was invited to camp he wouldn't be allowed to sign with another team, I know with a pto you can but don't think you would be allowed to if you already have an ahl contract

I don't think an AHL contract prevents a player from signing with any NHL team that wants him.

I noticed that as well, he looked very gassed in the 3rd, and legs were not moving well at all. I hope it's just a conditioning thing he can improve on as training camp moves forward.

Maybe, but also just score effects. I know it was a pre-season game and the score doesn't actually matter, but I think that players subconsciously will react to being up 4-0 later in a game.
