Jets scouts are pretty good eh? I’m still wondering why he wasn’t given an actual chance with Detroit.
Apart from the injury concerns, I've heard rumours that Yzerman's ego may have blinded him from being able to see the talent Svech has.

Apparently Steve wasnt the GM when Svech was drafted by the Wings, and Yzerman only wants to keep the kids that he had a part in drafting.

Yeah they have purged a lot of the prior regimes prospects. Pretty short sighted if you ask me.

Different teams like different types of players in the bottom six. Yzerman is probably looking for more speedy forchecking PK types. And Svech isn't playing top six anywhere as it is right now.

Fresh starts can be good for everyone involved.

He processes the game very quickly. If that can offset the speed he's lost due to injury then good. If he's able to recover from those injuries and regain that speed then this is an amazing pick-up. Hope another team doesn't scoop him up before we sign him.

don't know 100% on this but I think since he signed with the moose and was invited to camp he wouldn't be allowed to sign with another team, I know with a pto you can but don't think you would be allowed to if you already have an ahl contract

With an AHL contract you can always sign with an NHL team of your choosing. If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it.

Yzerman seems a little more professional than purging the team of kids he had no part in drafting. Especially if they are going to help the team now. Clearly there are other factors in play

Svechnikov did clear waivers once upon a time, so it's not like Yzerman did something totally ridiculous. Yes, he gave up on a guy who still showed a glimmer of hope, but maybe he thought the rest of the league assumed his value was zero and decided it wasn't worth it. Chevy's history with Svech goes back to the draft, he must have wanted to start fresh from the off-season instead of picking him up midyear and forcing the fit. I like this approach.

It’s also only been two games. I like Svech a lot thus far but Yzerman hasn’t been proven wrong yet

No arguments here. I acknowledged that other factors were at play. The rumours surrounding the curious case of Svech's departure from Detroit can ring hollow in an echo chamber that resides within the confines of these HF Boards :) Im just a fan.
