Marchand is only 5'9', so low center of gravity+stout body mass. There is nothing special about him as a fighter vs. anyone, even in this match. He just hung on close to Hronek & used a bit of leverage.
I didn't say he's a great fighter, just saying he can hold his own. He's nowhere near Tootoo or Asham level for short fighters.

But he is stronger and fights better than that Euro kid Hronek just fought.

He didn't win this fight, but you gotta have some serious balls to take on PK Subban

Marchand beats up Eller

I was expecting to see something way worse for 3 games. Suspension rules must be different in Sweden. That's barely 2 minutes in the NHL. I actually like how Berggren was fighting to get to the net there. Softest 3 game suspension I've ever seen.
I agree. Berggren caught a forearm/fist right before & as he was recovering another D was in his way so he reacted to move him...no intent to injure, not intentionally targeting the head (if you watch it at full speed) etc

That's a 3 game suspension??

Give me a break...Ugly play for sure, and completely unnecessary, but 3 games? Come on...

Sorry, but if it's any consolation, SUbban lands a righty to the back of the rat's head at 40 seconds into the video.

The only point there was that people underestimate his strength and fighting ability because of his height.

Not a smart play by Berrgren honestly. 3 games seems fair if you are trying to eliminate guys trying to hit others in the head. While it is a weaker hit to the face, and in the NHL that likely is only a 2 minute penalty, he still shouldn't be hitting someone in the face especially not with his stick.

Yeah I think it was just dumb. I sure hope it was just dumb because one alternative is it was a situation where he suffered head trauma and reacted violently. I think the term is "non insane automation", that Wideman kind of thing. That'd be very bad news on the injury front. It looks like he might have got his bell rung just before, so I don't think we can rule that out 100٪ unfortunately.

Watch the video, he went to shove him in the shoulder and hit him in the face because the dman had his head really low. Plus it looks like the stick rode up his arm. That's not a suspension in the NHL, I don't think it's a big deal at all. Just sucks to miss 3 games.

It does suck to miss the games, no way around it. I'm only saying that I'm more concerned about the impact he took himself before that.... I don't have time to care if it's a suspension in other leagues. As long as he's not hurt himself, I'm good. (I'm about 97% sure it was an oops situation.)

You know how the NHL Original Six logos/jerseys are considered to be the most iconic? Which teams in the SHL have that kind of iconic brand/logo? To start, I'm guessing Djurgårdens IF is one?

There's not really any iconic jerseys in the SHL in the same way. It's mostly a bunch of shield logos and jerseys plastered with ads. But if there's a "Montreal Canadiens" of the SHL it's probably Brynäs or Färjestad.

Are there a lot of Indians in Sweden?

No.

"The club was founded on 3 February 1938, as an ice hockey section in Västra Frölunda IF and became independent on 29 March 1984. Prior to the 1995/1996 season, the nickname Indians was adopted. This referring to the successful years of the 1960s, when fans started to call them the "Wild West" (Västra Frölunda is West Frölunda in English). But as they didn't want a nickname like cowboys or something with firearms, Indians became the obvious choice."

I was obviously being facetious, but that's pretty funny. It's unfortunate though that people continue to use that term though, a 500 year old mistake.

I only use that term for people from India, not because I'm worried about political correctness but because I know Native Americans are not from India.
