I'm going to go full insane-asylum EA NHL 25 mode for fun.

To Vancouver:

Pastrnak
McAvoy

To Boston:

EP40
Willander
Lekkerimaki
1st round pick 2025
1st round pick 2026
Neccessary cap dump

then:

To Buffalo:

EP40

To Boston:

Byrum
Cozens

Vancouver: All the way in by turning EP40 into Pasta/McAvoy and forgo the future

Buffalo: Adds elite #1 franchise C and good 1/2 punch with Thompson

Boston: Decides to finally tear down and rebuild and have Cozens, Byrum, Willander, Lekkerimaki, 1st rounder x2 to warp speed the process.

Pettersson for Rantanen?

You must be thinking sign/trade with Rantanen? I think he wants to stay with the Avs but not sure about their cap situation. If Landeskog comes back, they have a problem to deal with but regardless, they would have a problem with $11.6M AAV as well because I bet Rantanen gets close to $12M himself. Avs have room to fit Rantanen in but it gets very complicated if Landeskog returns.

Rantanen next contract (if 8 years) is age 29-36. Pettersson is 7 years from age 26-33.

Rantanen wants (and deserves) ~$13-13.5M but Sakic doesn't want to give anyone more than MacK gets ($12.6M). Reports tell Rantanen talks with Avs is "pretty ugly" so they arent close to agreement.

So where is the $13-13.5M coming from? Draisaitl got $14M and they aren't far away from each other role and points wise. Mikko has cup-winning experience though. Both have same agent.

Might be a hot take but I don't see Rantanen playing in Avs next season.

We have seen it before and the player stays.

I'm on Sakic's side on this. $12M for Rantanen is a good AAV and respectful. Leave a little for your GM to improve the team.

Don't know about you but I hate greedy players going after the absolute max. $96M vs $108M is the difference between $12M AAV and $13.5M. $12M difference is a lot but $96M is enough. Come on man

...and not for Bruins too!

The newest reports that Boston is making a package for Pettersson is the one that makes the least sense.

The Boston Bruins are not trading past, and the Boston Bruins are not trading, McAvoy.

So what in the blue moon with Boston have to get a guy like Pettersson?

Because Carlo, Freddy, and the first rounder is not gonna get it done.

They don’t have anything else that I’m interested in
Well I think their inquiring, Sweeney desperate, the team and his job is slip sliding away fast and you never know what Alvin/Rutherford may like on Boston and as Bruin fan I sure hope there's something there that does interest them, because a young elite Center is just what the Bruins need, but yea I see nothing there unless the Canucks are throwing in the towel for this season, which makes no sense.

I know, I hate greediness as well. But I don't see Rantanen accepting sub $13M contracts if he continues to give what we've seen this season so far.

Contracts are negotiated based on comparables, and first one to sign can set the market for other similar players. That's why I'm comparing Drai and Mikko here.

I wish the Avs good luck on that. Huge Mackinnon fan and he needs Rantanen to stay

You should be locked up with Diddy for this.

Sounds like Boston is really into Miller/Pettersson

Main target needs to be Mcavoy.

Unfortunately this probably means Willander would be going the other way to Boston.

Willander is easily the Canucks best prospect and ironically enough has been compared to Charlie Mcavoy. Bruins probably have gotten alot of looks on Willander as he plays in their backyards at BU.

To Van
Zacha
Mcavoy
2nd rnd pick

to Bos
Miller
Desharnais
Willander
5th rnd pick

Hoglander- Pettersson-Boeser
Debrusk- Zacha- Garland
Joshua- Suter-Sherwood
Sasson-Bleuger-Heinen

Hughes-Hronek
Soucy-Mcavoy
Forbort-Myers
Branstrom

Demko
Lankinen

Canucks can then use their 1st and or Boston's 2nd to improve their forward group and get more scoring in the top 6.

If Miller can turn Boeser into a 40+ Goal scorer then there's no doubt in my mind Pasta becomes a 60goals 100 point guy again. Lindholm would just have to play lockdown C for the 2nd line and their top 6 becomes elite again.

Miller waiving his NMC going to the Bruins makes sense. A whiner type player 30+ joining a whiner type team. It's humor folks. Relax kids.

I wonder how the Bruins D looks like after that trade?

I like Bryam and Cozens but that combo gets the Sabres JT Miller not EP40.

I don't agree. Miller is still very effective but nobody knows how he ages (signed until age 37).

Byram and Cozens vs Miller is not a debate. Sabres get ripped off big time.

Byram and Cozens vs EP40 is a decent debate. Some say it's too much and some say it's fair. Pettersson has more value and we agree there but I doubt the Canucks get better than Byram and Cozens (if he is ever traded)

McAvoy has full NMC. Don’t really see him waiving to go across the continent and to a different country.
