Vancouver's needs are a top 4 LHD and a top 6 / 2nd line C.
I think Vancouver is putting itself in a bind if they are only making the trade to get the right mix of positions back.

If they trade JT Miller, they should seek the player with the highest upside possible. Even if it is for a position like wing. Even if it means it is a one-for-one trade and not a package.

They can’t myopically look at such a trade as solving for their needs right now. They need to add the best core player they can get back and then fill out the holes after that.

The more I think about this - the more I wonder if this has Pat Verbeek written all over it…and honestly I don’t necessarily love it but I think it makes too much sense.

Ducks need scoring. Could legitimately be in a playoff spot if they had a competent power play and a few more goals. (Something like 15-0-1 when they score 3 or more?).

Vancouver reportedly wants a center and I’m sure a prospect and a pick or multiple. Anaheim has McTavish, Zegras (though hurt), a good prospect/young player pool and picks to give with a lot of salary cap room to fit a guy like EP in.

It wouldn’t shock me at all to see Verbeek make this move and I’m not even sure it’s the right one.

It does seem like, if you actually watch Friedman’s segment, that this is going to happen sooner rather than later.

If either 1 had less term and we have an idea of whats happening with Marner and J.T, I would throw a solid picks+prospects offer for Miller

The more I think about the cozens and byram package, the more it just makes sense. I think imho that the Canucks have a trade in principal in place with Buffalo, but are waiting to see how this year plays out. I don’t think Rutherford and Alvin want to trade EP, but if things go south, they will.

Best offer I believe comes from Boston

Petterson ( 25% retained )

Carlo
Frederic
Lysell
1rst

I just can’t see any team retaining for 7 years ever.

I just don’t think Boston has a headliner for an EP deal. I think that Miller’s age and NMC power could give Boston a shot by packaging of their 2Cs and one of their 2nd pairing D and whatever Frederic’s/picks/prospects make sense.

Would like to hear Vancouver perspective on an Elias Pettersson to Anaheim trade.

I assume
Mctavish or Zegras is the main piece going back, but what needs to be added

Is
Mctavish or zegras
1st (top 2 protection)
Hinds smith(tarin) or dioncicio
Forward prospect(masse, proczyn, Terrance, burnvik)

Get us in convo
The center + 1st being the main haul, and a couple depth pieces.

If Vancouver is trading Pettersson (which I hope they don't do if it's between Miller and Pettersson), then they need to fill two gaps. Replacement centre and help on the blueline. I think you'd be looking at Zegras (though I would prefer McTavish instead), Zellweger, 1st and a couple of middling pieces (mid-round draft picks/prospects).

Prob too rich for my liking, don’t think I’d give up 3 premiums(z 1st and zell), but was mostly just curious

Def could see Anaheim kicking tires, we’ll see if pv is more willing.
