Should just make walk in availability for any unbooked time slots. Open it right and treat it the same way as flying standby... Only half kidding, I have no idea if that is in any way feasible or helpful

Apparently Ontario is sitting on one million doses if AstraZeneca but they aren't using them because Health Canada hasn't approved it for younger people.

Ontario has a Public Health ministry that could go ahead but they are too afraid.

The terrorists.... I mean the anti-vaxers win.

They should find a way to have walk-in clinics for anyone to get a vaccine. It is doable.

Yeah but that is 55+. Certainly better than nothing but we have enough doses to be vaccinating à lot more.

The reason it is isn't happening is because Provinces are afraid. Health Canada has said that they don't think there is an issue with using AZ on younger people, they just haven't said "we are 100% sure and here are our studies" (obviously, studies take a while).

The Provinces are quick to say "health care is provincial" but they just use it to get more money from the GoC; they don't seem interested in actually administering it when it is their job.

Health Canada provides update on the AstraZeneca and COVISHIELD COVID-19 vaccines - Recalls and safety alerts
Based on Health Canada’s review of available data from Europe and from the United Kingdom and AstraZeneca, no specific risk factors have been identified. Therefore, Health Canada is not restricting the use of the vaccine at this time.

You're absolutely right. Ontario could open it up to all Ontarians if the will was there.

I've always wondered during this pandemic and warehouse workers if the most dangerous part of your shift is breaks and lunch? How do they organize it to keep you safe?

Severe restrictions on how many people can be in the lunchroom at one time. We also have clear plastic barriers now between all seats (basically turning long tables into mini cubicles). We're also required to sanitize our seating spots and table and barriers after use. Most folks on my shift these days simply go outside on breaks and lunch...either sit around outside or eat in our cars (those who have vehicles).

The larger shifts also have their breaks and lunches staggered out a bit more so you have fewer people in the lunchroom at one time.

Good but I'd love to know why they aren't making it available to every age group.

I'm not an expert so I don't doubt that there are (good?) reasons why they want to do it this way.

Also this really makes the Ontario government look completely inept. They could have moved on this a while ago and are only doing it now that people on Twitter are calling them out.

The virus is far more dangerous for older populations, so vaccinate them first. Yes the media is saying the virus is hitting younger people harder which is true, but it is still far more dangerous for a 50 year old then a 30 year old.

Hard to find data even on 45 and under - have to agree.

Yes but is there a downside to vaccinating as many people as possible over going by risk?

I think that vaccinating anyone who wants to helps more than vaccinating by age group. Especially when you consider that the people who are more likely to spread the virus are on the younger end of the spectrum.
