Baseball America released a new big-board for the next IFA Signing class. Players were ranked based off of expected signing bonus (not perceived "ability"). The Jays are once again expected to land a top-player, currently believed to receive the 11th highest bonus (and the highest catcher on the list):

11
Luis Meza
Venezuela C
Notes:
Born: Sept. 11, 2004. B-T: R-R. Ht.: 5-11. Wt.: 185.

Venezuela consistently is home to top international catchers, with Diego Cartaya (Dodgers), Francisco Alvarez (Mets) and Ronnier Quintero (Cubs) in the most recent signing classes. Meza fits into that tier of players as a catcher who projects to stick behind the plate and is one of the better hitters in Venezuela. He has a loose, easy swing with a knack for being on time and strong game performance. He's a high-contact hitter who uses the whole field, with room on his broad-shouldered frame to fill out and drive the ball with more impact as he gets stronger. Meza's catch-and-throw skills are also advanced for his age. The Blue Jays are expected to sign Meza, who trains with Kander Depablos and Reynaldo Gonzalez.

That’s awesome but man can we focus on something other than catcher. Try for a high ceiling arm. Maybe outfielder LOL

What’s everyone’s lineup when we get everyone back healthy?

I still like Biggio at the top of the order over Semien.

New Vladdy is the most ideal #3 hitter you can get... High on base, slugging, power, even has some improved speed, the only thing is Bichette is more of a free swinging contact hitter rather then the patient and walking type so I think I like Bichette behind Gurrerro (have the higher on base guy ahead of Bichette). Maybe Vladdy 2, Springer #3. Get the better hitter (Vladdy) more at bats in the 2 hole. I’m also good with 1. Biggio 2. Springer 3. Gurrerro but I’d have it as this:

1. Biggio
2. Gurrerro Jr.
3. Springer
4. Bichette
5. Hernandez
6. Gurriel
7. Tellez
8. Kirk
9. Semien

When healthy

1.Springer
2.Bichette
3.Vlad
4. Hernandez
5. Tellez/Grichuk depending on who is in the lineup
6. Gurriel
7.Semien
8. Biggio
9. Kirk/Jansen

I randomly was thinking today did aaron Sanchez end up signing with anyone this off season? I don’t believe he did but I’m curious

Oh really. Good for him. I thought he was done for
His fastball velocity is currently sitting at just 90.5 MPH, which is quite concerning for him given his control problems. Will definitely be worth monitoring as he continues to get more innings.

Was really surprised they didn't use Kay at all today. Why is he even still on the roster if they're going to let him rot and just use bullpen days?

I mean they won today so I probably shouldn't complain, just surprised.

Man, seems like only yesterday he was touching 100 when he first came up in relief.

I think they will use him in the Rays series

With the double day off this week I don't think we even need a 4th starter until next Tuesday now. Matz and Ray can go Fri/Sat and the double day off means Ryu is back on regular rest for Sunday. Ryu likes extra rest so I could see Kay in 1 of the games for sure. Just feels weird they could have went Kay today and then next Tuesday, and they would have been fine with 4 starters until May 4th. Guess they felt more confident in the pen day than Kay for 5 innings, and they won so who am I to say they were wrong.

I was thinking that too. I wonder if they didn't like the matchup Kay would face against the Red Sox. Kay pitched quite well in his only start but was unlucky.

He needs to be in lower leverage until he get's back in form. Today was a close ball game.

Who? Kay? He's literally a starter. There's no leverage spot like a reliever. They stretched him out to be a starter. He either starts, or send him down to stay stretched out. They only have 3 healthy starters right now, you can't just wear out your pen 2 out of every 5 times through.

He pitched fine in his only appearance. Looked bad in the boxscore because there were a few soft hit balls fall in and Biggio/Bichette were awful defensively on the left side of the infield. Struck out 3 and didn't walk anyone. I certainly trust him more than a Milone/Payamps/Thornton/Roark combo to get through 5 innings. They got good results today but so did Zeuch his first time out. I wouldn't rely on it. Thornton is probably the only guy I trust from that bunch.

Oh is Kay exclusively a starter now? I missed that. I know Montoyo will move guys in and out of starting roles maybe all year long I.e: Kay, Roark, Zeuch, Thornton etc I’m not even sure what the back end of the rotation is day to day anymore they change it so much, lol.

He's only made the 1 appearance and that was when he was called up for start about a week and a half ago. He was sent to the alternate site to start the year to be stretched out for that purpose. Since that 1 start he's just sat and done nothing which is kind of strange. Either he's one of the teams starters(which given we only have 3 others healthy he probably should be), or he's not and they should send him down and get use out of the roster spot. I assumed they would use him tonight since they didn't do that.

He's basically been a starter his whole career except last year because there were no minor leagues and teams were given extra roster spots so they used him where he could fit. He should be a starter for the foreseeable future until a point where he proves he can't hack it as a starter at which point he might fill a Brett Cecil kind of pen role.

Boy they really find some bottom of the barrel assets when they add to the club. I guess at least they aren't giving up the good stuff but you usually need to give up good to get good back.
