Blue Jays Discussion: Everyone's hurt, but some are starting to make returns

Literally every team makes this kind of move for depth pieces all the time.

We're not allowed to have depth though, it doesn't matter. As if when you'll ever have 12 players on the IL, mostly pitchers and still have the best ERA in the AL that would never happen. These moves are pointless.

Beasley is a nice acquisition for very little in return. He's pitched well throughout the minors except for the Pacific Coast League where everyone failed due to juiced balls. Scouting reports state that he pitches as high to mid 90's with his fastball with an A grade splitter that induces more than enough ground balls. He has all options still and can be carried on roster or in the minors.

Nothing wrong with this deal at all.

Just to add, this management group has a very good ability picking up 'low end' pieces and turning them into a pitcher of value.

Exactly. With all the early pitching injuries, how important have Milone (minor league signing), Payamps (waivers), and Castro (waivers) been so far?

And the two worst pitchers so far have been Roark big FA signing and Zeuch a former first-round pick.

On the injury front, it looks like CHatwood and Romano will be activated when their time is up. Springer likely comes back Sunday if everything goes well. I think he plays the Friday intrasquad game, rests Saturday, and cleared to play Sunday. Pearson likely around 10 days if all goes well.

Hatch and Merryweather longer term which sucks.

Im very impressed with Payamps and Castro. I didnt think they would be anything at all. Castro has a great arm and Payamps is pretty reliable

Still think the Hatch injury was a more significant blow than most people realize. This guy would've been better than rolling out Zeuch/Thornton/Roark/etc. in the rotation and would've been ace coming out of the bullpen.

These 10 have been MLB's best ... so far
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Blue Jays
Current WAR total: 1.3

Now this is more like it. Guerrero Jr. has been counted on to be a superstar for so long that we forget how young he truly is. (He’s younger than Orioles pending phenom Adley Rutschman.) Now, that temporary ballpark certainly isn’t hurting him any, but it’s clear that offseason training program to get in better shape is working splendidly. Vlad has truly arrived.

Likely to stay in top 10? That .383 average is going to fall, but will it be offset by more power? It’ll have to for him to remain at these heights. But my goodness how fun it is to see him emerging like this.

They weren't using Kay so it makes sense to get use out of that roster spot. After the double day off next week I expect he'll be back up as the 4th starter unless some other starter is healthy by then. They'd need the 4th starter on Monday the 3rd which is exactly 10 days from now. Do need 1 more pen day between now and then though.
