Everyone should cheer for Team Europe @ the World Cup

Would be sad if they gave up on a tournament just because the north American teams lost tho. People say it's not a best on best because canada and the states have handicaps so maybe the nhl doesn't care.

That's why I would prefer Czechs and Finland. I don't think most want the NHL to drop the tournament, just the gimmick teams. The World Cup has plenty of positives, the gimmicks just get in the way of them.

Hmm so they would invite more teams that the nhl didn't want winning the next time around

Getting rid of the gimmick teams and replacing them with whoever is ranked 7th and 8th or even adding 2 more would increase scoring by alot tho so you could have players posting crazy numbers during the tourny

This tournament being a success makes that dropping out much more likely, since this is pegged as the NHL's idea of Olympics replacement and like bone throw for NHLPA, which obviously wants to participate in the Olympics.

I'm skeptical that it would happen, but who knows. We know that the NHL wants the tournament to include as many NHLers as possible (thus no Slovakia an Switzerland) and it isn't like Switzerland and Slovakia are going to pump out 20 NHLers in the next four years. The hope is that the NHL is embarrassed by the gimmicks, and the best way for that to happen is for Canada and USA to be eliminated early and the gimmick teams to go out early too. Finland-Czech Republic would also be the worst possible match-up audience wise.

For me it's not even a matter of why would I, the simple fact is that I never could and I can't understand people who would (assuming they're Canadian of course). They can rationalize their thinking until they're blue in the face, to me they're nothing but traitors.

I see it this way - you want to cheer for the opposing team? Good for you. Cross over to the other side then and don't ever come back.

Yup they've got nothing to lose and everything to gain...They're easily the fastest team in this tourney...they gotta play up tempo, balls to the wall hockey...

Let the kidz play to their strengths...never mind a stifling kitty bar the door approach....

They might get beat by a tactically superior and more disciplined squad with far less flair...

Then again...they might BLOW THOSE EUROS AWAY!

Agreed the closest you will get out of me is saying I hope Mathews does well along with Morgan Reilly


I do think a Canada VS Team North America would be interesting but I doubt that happens

Oh yeah I'll be pulling for those guys absolutely. Until they play Team Canada of course. Also looking forward to seeing what Zaitsev can do. Exciting time for Leaf fans.

I'm just hoping they win some medal so the "Kopitar hasn't won an Olympic medal" argument by some crazy fans could be put to rest. :laugh:

Who ever says that ? The chance of any player winning a metal at the Olympics for team Slovenia atm is pretty much zero. If 1 player willed them to win it would probably toss him into the top 5 players of all time discussion
 
I hope USA goes out early and North America advances. But yeah I think some of you are right. Czechs vs Finland is the best outcome. Embarrassed NHL but not quite enough to give them the idea to bring back the joke teams.

Exactly. Waited 12 years for this snooping for any World Cup return rumors and now.... I have no interest.

Well Slovenia was in quarterfinals in Sochi. Lost to Sweden, but was handicaped with quite some injuries in that game. In Pyeongchang they will have even stronger team. So I wouldn't say chances are zero.

I dont understand why people root for failure or for something to go wrong. Why not look for reasons to like something rather than the opposite?

The exhibition game last night between NA and EU was a lot of fun to watch.

Because it would actually mean things going RIGHT when it comes to having real best-on-best hockey in the future.

Every person fawning over TNA now means more gimmicks (and no Olympics) down the road.

yeah I don't think the nhl is worried that the 7th and 8th place teams will win the tourney. More like they have no chance of winning and have 1 or 2 nhlers like Denmark, or Norway where there will be no interest in watching them play
