Post-Game Talk: Every Game Should Be Against Tampa!

Hagelin, in his first 83 NHL games is 21-28-49.

But, what makes this even more special is that he has only one of those goals on the power play.

In his 38 points last year, 36 were ES. 2 were shorthanded. 10 of 11 point are ES this year.

In short, he has only 1 point on the power play.

He's an unbelievable even strength player. I want to see him on the penalty kill. I think he could be seriously dangerous.

He changed his game post NCAA and people thought I was nuts rating him higher than Kreider.

Its an unusual amount of energy he brings. I don't think he'll be a consistent 50 point a season guy in the NHL but you needs guy like Hagelin in your lineup.

He had a rough start and everyone was all over him. The fanbase needs to be less fickle.

I thought we had a solid effort for 40 minutes. I don't know why the team had to play the 3rd on their heels. They need to play more dominantly with the lead and not settle for just playing defense in the 3rd. We could have had another Boston scenario in the 3rd. Hard to be disappointed though. Hopefully they can keep this going.

I like hagelin but im not gonna go crazy even though he has had a good stretch of games. Also playing with nash helps a lot

Didn't realize poll had only one choice tonight.

3 stars: Nash, Hagelin, Callahan (he's really picked it up the last two games)
HM -let's give Richards some credit, he played well even before the pass to Nash, also, JT Miller looked really sharp tonight

The bad - power play still s**ks, would have been 0-4 if not for the 7 on 5, counting the ref.
Notice how Tortarella tortured Gaborik, made him play with Boyle (who really stinks, I'm coming to the conclusion he's be lousy even on the 4th line - I'd rather have Bickel on the 4th, he really helped when he had the fight after the second goal, fights often jumpstart teams, not this time because he kicked Lightning ass)

An understated aspect of tonight (and hockey in general).

Faceoffs are HUGE. It leads to more puck possession and gets the other team chasing. It's usually how the Rangers start to fall apart in games. They start losing faceoffs, and they start chasing and running around.

can you please explain this to my friend who hates me for adding faceoffs in my fantasy league? :D

after rewatching the game (so far in the 1st period). I thought Richards played A LOT better and seems to be getting there... The pass across 2 lines that was BARELY offsides or Nash would have had a breakaway was pretty damn good. thats the old Richards.

I still think kreider will end up being a better player. Sure i admit now hagelin is ahead of him but kreider is still young and after a stnt in the AHL I think he will be much better. Might not be until next year where he puts up the stats though i admit

haven't looked through the posts, but i thought Brad Richards played a terrific game, that was a pretty damn perfect pass to Nash for his goal.

right now Hagelin and Stepan are the Rangers 2 best players from the big 3.

I'd really consider re-uniting Nash, Gaborik, and Richards to try to get Richards & Gabby going again, and then put Cally with Hagelin and Stepan since, really, those 3 are our 3 best players right now.

just my 2 cents.

Put Hags with Richards and Gaborik.

They played together against the Jets and I thought they were our best line. That line worked so well last season yet Torts has barely used that trio this season.

Make the second line Miller-Stepan-Nash. Stepan and Nash have chemistry, Miller adds a skilled puck possession player to that line.
3rd line, Pyatt-Halpern-Callahan. Looked great against the Sens when it was put together. Too tenacious forecheckers and an excellent board player.
4th line, Powe-Boyle-Asham/Bickel. Puts Boyle on the 4th line where he belongs at this moment, Powe is Power, and Bickel/Asham are Bickel/Asham. Agressive 4th line.

It would be huge if Step-Cally continue to develop some chemistry. They used to be pretty useless whenever they were put together. It has been working better for the past few games.

honestly...i didn't like that line against the Jets....I can't really explain why. I think Gaborik NEEDS Nash a lot more than Nash needs anyone else. Put Nash & Gabby together...i just say Richards because it gives you the chance to try to recapture the magic they had to start the season, and gives you a chance to put together the 3 players that are basically carrying the team right now, Hagelin, Stepan, and Callahan.

To be fair (so far I'm in the middle of the 2nd period). I think Gaborik hasn't played anywhere near as bad as people say he did.. He's been around the net getting chances, and taking shots when he had them. His game is not forechecking so we can't expect him to do that effectively.

and he was playing with Boyle and Miller... Miller has been pretty good, but Boyle centering Gaborik? oof.
