he has to prove that he's a top pairing player first
...so would whomever we pick 1st, as does Roy need to prove it and we know what Evans is...hell, I'd even throw in Mailloux to get Nemec...

We have a few stopgap options while he develops into that in Matheson on the right doing fine, and Guhle who proved he can also do that.maybe down the line but they're not gonna get paired for a few seasons, we actually have to see him play before that
the difference is i would move fewer assets to get someone i know could fill that hole, like Roy+ for Rasmus Andersson (he's not the exact type of player we need on #1 RD but you're not gonna find that type of player easily, the guy we need is basically another Weber which doesn't exist)...so would whomever we pick 1st, as does Roy need to prove it and we know what Evans is...hell, I'd even throw in Mailloux to get Nemec...

I wouldn't move either of our 1sts tho

the rebuild is over, it's time to bring young vets in (26-28) to help the team grow/compete now, we already have enough prospects/futures in the pipeline...Andersson is old for our rebuild and this draft class doesn't look all that impressive, not to mention we have 2 kicks at it this year...reward> risk imo...
Roy + Mailloux is fair value for RasmusDon’t think that would get Rasmus
Don’t think Calgary will agree with that at all.the rebuild is over, it's time to bring young vets in to help the team grow now

I’m not even going to defend Haula I’m definitely in favor of trading him or at least getting someone to replace him on the 3rd line and drop him to the 4th.Haula has been absolutely brutal all year. Him not being a competent player is a huge reason why the 5 on 5 scoring has been worse this year, because the top 2 lines basically have to do everything. NJ should do everything in their power to look to upgrade on him ASAP.
And that has nothing to do with Nemec, tbh. I would be saying this regardless.
regardless what you or i think is fair value we have the pieces to make it happen, that other stuff is subjectiveDon’t think Calgary will agree with that at all.

If the Devils were to move Nemec, it should only be for a Timo Meier-level talent at minimum. The Devils just don’t have the cap space to afford to pay another forward 8+ million and the bigger need right now is to improve the middle-six depth.I’m not even going to defend Haula I’m definitely in favor of trading him or at least getting someone to replace him on the 3rd line and drop him to the 4th.
Ideally I’d prefer to trade Nemec for someone to play with Jack and Bratt and knock Palat down to 3c. If that means Haula has to go so be it. He can take Tatar with him.

Devils Top Prospect Considering Trade Request
Simon Nemec made a name for himself last season as a top rookie defenseman with the New Jersey Devils. At just 19 years old, Nemec was a regular on the Devils bwww.si.com
Could it be for real?
1 - We have Beck waiting to be called up as well as guys like Kapanen and Davidson waiting in the wings
2 - on the right side we have Reinbacher who is still injured, Mailloux who couldn't find the defensive zone on a map of the defensive zone, and Konyushkov who still has term on his contract and will maybe be a bottom pairing guy.
Perhaps you don't know what having depth on your NHL team is cause the answer is pretty obvious.Nemec playing in the AHL concerns me.
I have no idea what his shortcomings are but obviously Devils thought he needed seasoning.
THAT is a problem.
I'm watching Maillioux and he's getting worse and worse in the AHL. This is the same guy who was 3rd in scoring for defenseman in the AHL as a rookie and now, he get's an assist here and there.
I'm not comparing the two directly but I am worried that we trade huge amount of assets for someone who may not be who we think he is or develop to what we hope he becomes.
2nd overall "sounds" great, but we can't afford to make a mistake.
If he was playing a regular shift in the NHL even as a third pairing for 15 minutes a night, I would feel more confident in a trade.

Same thing happened to Mailman. He get's demoted because he made mistakes, goes to the AHL and has a 4 point game and ANOTHER 4 point game...then he falls off a cliff. It's fair to wonder about him because of the AHL, but he was also hurt before the season in international play and played like crap to open the season. Kovacevic then decided to have a career season as a defensive juggernaut.
He just had a 5 point night last night and has 10 in his last 7. +3 (leads team) on a team that is -31 in goal differential.
I think he may have just been playing through it to start the season.
There are some concerns though. He's a perfect prospect by no means. He's a little passive defensively. Doesn't have the fire on his backside sometimes. Offensively, his decisions on when to pinch and go get it are still a work in progress. 5 on 5 and PKer and may not be a PP guy.
Also, since Hughes and Pesce have come back from injury, I Don't believe that any of the Devils defensemen have missed a game which didn't give Nemec a chance to come back up and force the team's hand.
