The Oilers are desperate, they will try to sign him for sure. Highly doubt Kane will want to go to Edmonton though. That is a no fly zone for most players.

The other tweet OP posted literally said Edmonton would be in Kane’s top 5 destinations…

15-20 teams have expressed interest. Just shows the NHL teams couldn't care less what kind of human being they employ as long as he can help them on the ice. I guess it makes sense. If we think that there are 650 role models in the NHL, the we are sorely mistaken. I bet there are many guys who you wouldn't even want to come close to your daughter.

That was pretty obvious when the Canes signed ADA

To be fair, winning is the top priority for fanbases as a whole too. A bunch of good guys that aren't good at hockey don't sell tickets in some markets and put GMs/owners on blast in others.

No way do I feel any confidence in Kane in working in the Oilers room I feel pretty confident that he would destroy it.

I called this a couple days ago, the oilers are desperate! And e.Kane is exactly the type of player they need, a goal scorer. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Holland must feel mcdavid and drasaitl along either RNH and nurse can keep Kane in check.
Yeah the oilers want him badly.

If E. Kane can get on a line with McDavid or Drais.... he will be happy AF!
Would be a great way to put up points and get another good contract

Healthy...
McDavid with Hyman and Puljai
Drai with Kane and RNH.

That would be a heck of a top 6 if the locker room can keep it all together.

The locker room can't keep it together now and are so mentally weak that a single goal against ends the game early for them.

Questions

1) Can he sign elsewhere and still have the grievance be valid if he wanted to sign before a conclusion? I assume no, right?

2) How long will it take for the grievance to be settled? A few weeks or could it drag on longer?

According to Chris Johnson, we dont know about #1 or #2 yet.
There is some fear that signing before both sides agree on how the grievance process will work could hurt him, so nothing seems iminent.

Why would the Oilers use cap space they don't have to acquire a player that isn't a goalie, the position murdering their season?

Tons of players violate various team rules and don't get their contracts terminated.

Correct. But this has not been the first time Kane has violated teams rules. He has consistently done it for years. Most players learn. This is not just about one incident, but the huge pile he has amassed over the years.

This. I for one find it quite telling how Kane's private life is played out in the public square against him. It is a negative pattern used in the past against POC and the fact that the league or team didn't do this to another POC who wasn't in this situation has absolutely zero bearing on things.

Perhaps it is as simple as few players do the things that would cause them to be played out in the public. The league has lots of POC, and their public life is not played out like this. He is the only one. Jack Johnson, the only other player I can remember declaring bankruptcy had his private life dragged out in public. Voynov did. Richards did. Brendan Leipsic did. The common thread is not POC. It is terrible behavior.

His case is quite unique, not because of his color (which is hardly unique), but due to to trail of crap he has left behind for many years now.

Isn't that why we got Duncan Keith? Intangibles!!!!!

I've actually seen these arguments that the Oilers have a strong enough leadership core to rein him in which I feel is spitting in the face of the likes of Thornton, Burns, Karlsson, Couture, Pavelski, etc. San Jose has/had more leadership in its room than the Oilers have had since Messier.

it just doesn't sit well with me that this league just allows contract termination of a black player.
people talk about systemic racism and doing more for POC, but when one gets dragged thru the mud and mistreated such as Evander Kane it becomes "YEAH BUT IT'S DIFFERENT. YEAH BUT. YEAH BUT"
it's all so tiresome.
Doesn’t it speak volumes that there would be a different set of rules for Kane in your scenario? They canned him because of his antics. Surely not a prohibited grounds

To be fair, Kane went down hill in the Sharks room when they lost Thornton, Pavelski, and Marleau. Couture was a new captain, Burns is very easy going, and Karlsson, I think, was trying not to step on too many toes himself. Pavelski and Jumbo were huge to keep Kane in line.

On top of that, reports are that Boughner was letting Kane getting away with so much last season, the room got sick of it so I doubt their leadership could do much.
