We don't root for soccer teams. Only football teams.

The beauty of football are upsets.

I remember arrogant Italian fans saying they only had to beat Northern Ireland and/or Switzerland. Then they completely whiffed on that, failing to beat both.

Then they went on about facing off against Portugal, completely overlooking North Macedonia.

History may be repeating itself again! They will surely get a harder matchup in the playoff qualifiers too :P

edit: Ukraine now closing in on the GD tiebreaker. Only 1 off.

I think they will beat them both and if not they still have a chance with the playoff round.

I'm curious as to what country you root for when it comes to soccer ?
I mean they could… the operative word is could.

Pretty easy to guess where my loyalties are. Not that it matters

Ha , I knew someone was going to be a snob and correct me. Took the bait.
It's not snob it's the correct term.
Snob is thinking you're right to use this term when the rest of the planet uses the term football. Game played with... the foot.
Anyway I was joking.

England
Good performance in the second half. Bellingham great in the build up for the 2nd goal, nicely finished by Rashford, hope he gets some confidence from that.

Phillips should have had a second yellow. Poor by Turpin.

I feel like I hadn't seen Kalvin Phillips play in years and lo and behold he's starting for what should be the strongest national football team in football nowadays, but unfortunately for them they have a clown on the bench.

Do people say things like this just so they can laugh at england for failing later? How can you have serious expectations when a poorman's Süle is guaranteed a starting spot?

I mean, that's exactly part of the point isn't it? they should be but have a clown on the bench and thus Maguire is guaranteed a starting spot?

A better coach (I've stood by Southgate before - he's what they needed at one point - but they've outgrown him) and English Sule wouldn't be in the squad anymore.

It's not like England is France even if Southgate weren't a poor man's Löw. Even with their best defenders, they would still be vulnerable in the back :dunno:

Then and there
Montenegro about to go in the half tied with Serbia (if the result holds Montenegro would control their own destiny). While Hungary are screwing up their chances to be in Pot 1 for Euro.

Jovetic's goal was very nice, but Serbia was just clearly better in the 2nd half. Subs Sergej M-S and Kostic gave them am offensive boost, and when Mitrovic and Tadic are at their best, they'll give trouble for most teams.

They play way too open for me to be successful at a major tournament, we saw it at the World Cup where they conceded like 8 goals I believe. They have the attacking talent but not great defensively which was once their forte

With Hungary’s draw at Lithuania Pot 1 for the main draw is essentially known barring crazy results: Germany, Portugal, France, England, Belgium, Spain

I said it was silly to pretend like England should be expected to win anything with their defense. Which it is.
With a healthy James and Chillwell (utopia I know) and Pope instead of Pickford and Tomori instead of Maguire (back to Southgate...) I'll take them over France's defense.

UEFA finalized the 1:1 result of Belgium-Sweden, doesn’t change anything for either team, Sweden eliminated and Belgium all but certain for Pot 1. Also they decided Israel will play their remaining qualifiers at a neutral venue
