Heart goes out to those poor Swedes and their compatriots on the pitch.

Given the standings, aren't they better off just calling the final result a tie and moving on from there? Or is a rematch the most likely scenario?

Then and there
Two Swedes were shot to death in Brussels. The match was at half-time and isn't going to be resumed.

Don't know the details why the match was postponed. Maybe the players/staff knew the shot ones personally or police from the stadium were needed elsewhere.

Not to belittle the victims or what happened, but seeing from the broadcast that all the spectators stayed in the stadium and in the stands for 90 minutes after the end of 1st half, the second half could have been played in way less time than that. I assume the players stayed inside the stadium too.

Maybe the police ordered them to stay inside the stadium or there was some sort of other threat elsewhere in Brussels.

But odd decision until we get more information.

Ehm not much info in NA media or you guys just go hard not even stopping because of terrorist attacks?

Swedes at the game has been instructed to take their jerseys off and wear neutral clothing. Swedes in general in Brussels have also been recommended to avoid speaking Swedish. Swedish fans at the game will be escorted by police to a "safe place"

Yeah we're just stupid dude I doubt we'd have stopped the game here. We had a game earlier this season where someone got shot outside the stadium during a fight, everyone heard it, and we kept going after halftime lmao. THIS WAS AT A SCHOOL. I could post an article but that's too much identifying information in there and I don't want to.

Thanks. I read that the police ordered the spectators to stay inside the stadium for safety reasons. Maybe because the shooter was still at large, and they didn't know if something else was planned.

But I understood that the shooting happened like 3 hours before start of the match, so I don't see the difference in safety inside the stadium if they were able to play the first half, then why not the second half too.

Unless there are more details coming out later.

But the play-off draw is supposed to happen on Nov 23rd and he final tournament draw on Dec 2nd. Have to play the matches before those dates.

As of now, UEFA website lists Israel fixtures as follows:

15 Nov Israel - Switzerland

18 Nov Israel - Romania

21 Nov Andorra - Israel

No date yet Kosovo - Israel. Not sure if the countries can agree to play this match on Nov12 (Sunday) or Nov 13 (Monday). Maybe the move each the other matches above to a day later?

I think it was 1.5 hours before the game and news started to get out just before kick-off. Players only found out at half time and by then it was also pretty clear that it was terrorism and not football related. Belgian police wanted the game to go on as inside the stadium deemed the most safe, which is why Swedish fans still seems to be inside the stadium.

Remains to be seen if Swedes in particular was the actual target or if it was just a coincidence, but that seems to be the theory right now as there is a clip going around where the suspect claims he got revenge by killing 3 Swedes. For those that are not aware there has been an increased threat level towards Sweden after a bunch of quran burnings during the summer

You may want to think a little longer before posting stuff like this. The shooting took place less than a hour before kickoff. At the time the game begun, no one had the full story, since it all was happening in real time. The players and the teams was all in game mode, and shortly after play begun news was beginning to get out that something had happened. No one really knew exactly what was going on at that point.

After first half when the details sunk in, it was a terrorist attack that specifically targeted Swedes, none of the players could play on. No Swedes, no Belgians. At that point it was safety and human compassion first. No one cares about the game.
3 people got shot, 2 was killed.
They got targeted because they wore the Swedish colours.

At least the US has good punishment for the crime. Hell, you can murder somebody in Slovakia and get out 15 years later.

Dude, they don't even lock people up for murder in America. As long as you're whiter than the person you gun down the worst case scenario is that you'll have to host a show on FOX.

I'm surprised that so many Swedish fans even bothered to travel to see the match as Sweden is already eliminated. Well, not theoretically yet but in practice yes.

Belgian FA have requested to UEFA to confirm the result as 1:1, they will ask the Swedish and Austrian FA to do the same as well. Doubt the game gets replayed but seeding does come into question as Belgium is one of those teams on the Pot 1 bubble (for Austria and Sweden the result wouldn't matter at all)

As of now Germany, Portugal and France are pretty much insured of Pot 1; the remaining three spots is down to Belgium, Spain, England and Hungary. The funny thing because of this format UEFA uses, Pot 3 is looking more dangerous than Pot 2 on paper. Of course this is all mathematics, lots can still change, for example its hard to believe Croatia is still heavily favored over Wales for direct qualification

You've got to wonder why France isn't 100% pot 1. Two WC finals in a row, won all their qualifiers...

I mean, it’s at 99%.

Portugal have looked really potent at creating chances, if not great clinic finishing over much of the past two games vs Slovakia and Bosnia, but I still don’t trust Martinez will open it up in big games vs big teams.

Theoretically they can lose their last two games  But UEFA strictly uses qualifying results for their seeding, which is why every point is important for these bubble teams. I mean if they somehow managed to get a result against Spain, Scotland would be in the Pot 1 picture ffs. Hungary can be in Pot 1 in only this format, the old format UEFA used was using some algorithm taking into account the last three qualifying cycles + tournaments. This one is more straight forward, maybe not the fairest due to the differences in qualifying group qualities but at the same time it doesn't look back to results from 5-6 years either

I can see them resting players in their last game vs Greece in Athens on Nov 21, considering they will most likely play all their stars and destroy Gibraltar at home on Nov 18 to guarantee their pot 1 finish.
