I was thinking :
" We are gonna spend to the cap.. and Toronto will pay for it !!"
Well, if he keeps his word and we continue to get revenue sharing, that statement could be correct.

After having the night to think think things over a bit....this whole thing of revealing he'll spend 'near' the cap starting in 2021 still doesn't make sense. And in all honesty, why would the corporate sponsors care so much? They are there to get a tax break and advertise and have tickets to gift to clients. There isn't that much of a market difference for them if the team is in last place or not. Most of them likely aren't even hockey fans (at least, not for the Sens). On ice performance would be secondary to them...what they want most is a good vehicle to attach to their brand, and a respectable partnership. Melynk and Dorion sure as hell don't provide that, no matter how much is spent on player salaries.
On a serious note, how tone deaf is this organization? It's not necessarily about spending to the cap, if you spend your $ on crap, who cares?
It's about investing in, and running a quality organization. And when we do build up and draft and develop players, we keep them on the roster because they're good and can help us achieve success. And if we have too many of these players, and need to make roster changes, then you have the foresight to plan ahead and make the decisions on which players to keep, and who to trade, and to maximize the best return on those players you need to trade by actually planning ahead.
Great, now I have that annoying Two Princes song stuck in my head.
Eugene Melnyk and partner John Ruddy of the Trinity Development Group, were already in Toronto, for several days of Mediation talks, that started Monday in an attempt to try to the save RendezVous LeBreton’s deal with the National Capital Commission.
Then there was the Scheduled Corporate Sponsorship event, on Tuesday, at the Hockey Hall of Fame, where he made this commitment to those in attendance.
The Senators then released the Commitment, to the public the next day (Wednesday).
Where are the spin doctors this morning?
Well, if he keeps his word and we continue to get revenue sharing, that statement could be correct.
Tone deaf and completely oblivious, apparently.
Dark, dark times moving forward with Melnyk and Dorion. Dark times.
That's such a good tune, how can anyone not like thatJUST GO AHEAD NOW!

I've never defended Melnyk, but I can spell his name correctly.
I you believe that he "has the money" to spend to the cap in two or three seasons from now, you're welcome to do so.
I don't.
Bonk def rocked this tape in his walkman in the 90's while wearing a fisherman's hat, Oakley's and flinging devil sticks in the park.JUST GO AHEAD NOW!
Reporting blatant threadjacking is an option...You have never defended Melnyk? What? Do you have a concussion from falling off a unicorn or something ?
One of? The guy is objectively the worst GM in the NHL.Scariest part is it looks like Dorion will be executing this entire rebuild.
One of the worst GM's in charge, pathetic.
