Sign the UFAs is what it sounds like to me. But he is telling them all that they will not be good next year. Will they commit knowing next year will be tough as this year? Tough call to make.

Buckle up.

Lmao next year will be something else when all our rookies have no good veterans to lean on and learn from.

Then we'll wonder why we still suck in 5 years.

This guy is like Billy McFarland

"It's gonna be great I PROMISE"

...

*Gets to 2021*

Yep... It's still absolute trash.

I'm no Nostradamus here, but when talking about this team it's like I can see in the f***in future like it was the present....

Because .... Because it is the present.

In all honesty, it’s going to be one of those “Nobody could have predicted this” situations with a rising cap.

Also, gotta put some blame on the fans as well for not believing his BS and generating revenues!

Im pulling for the team will be sold when the rink is done and he is going to break the bank and run that debt from 130 to 200 million going for his last shot at a cup.

This is what I see too.

I don't get how people think this means he won't pay Duchene/Stone.. Like if he says he's going to spend to the cap in 2 years he's not going to go out and spend from the cap minimum to the cap maximum in one summer 2 years from now.. Thats just unrealistic.

If Melnyk wants to win this fanbase back (I know some are just never going to be on his side again..), but if he wants to get alot of the fanbase back, it starts now with a financial commitment to our 2 best players. So for me its put up or shut up time. But I think he knows if wants to keep owning a team, he has to pay out to get a championship.

So I guess Duchene and Stone have decided they officially want out. What a clown

Its tough to say. The optimist in me says that this is a message to the ufa's saying that they are committed to winning. The ufas are going to be a big part of that, and its important to send the message that they wont just be spinning their tires forever. Next year will be rough but there's a path back to being a play-off team

The part of me that watched that awful between the jerseys video says that this a message to the fan base saying we're gonna suck next year and season seat renewals come up next week so come buy some tickets you idiots

Also I know they're getting paid pretty good compared to the rest of us but can you imagine being a young and upcoming player on this team and hearing the owner say this? We're gonna spend in X years but we're going the spend the bare minium for the next couple of years and be the cannon fodder of the league. Great motivator.

The league should step in and remove this guy forcefully. This guy is openly saying I won't even attempt to ice a competitive team for another two years. The fans deserve better.

The org needs to regain credibility with the Fans, the sponsors, and the players. I think the sponsors and the players can probably buy into the team if they have a plan and Melnyk is injecting money into the team to allow it to a) have a competitive roster, and b) support that roster with a management team that has the experience to successfully guide the team towards that plan.

The fans will have a much harder time buying back in with Melnyk as the face of ownership. If another partner is coming into the ownership group, I think that person taking the lead as the face of ownership will be vital to regaining fan trust. If there isn't a new partner/owner, I think it will be a longer path to regaining the fan's faith.
