San Jose is a joke. Chicago rolled them on their way to their first cup. 2nd San Jose choked in the Stanley cup. Making the playoffs is great but that does t make your team the sunshine destination for players who prefer to be crowned the king not be the runner up.

Also Calgary and Colorado are 2 dangerous young teams with lots of depth.

San Jose under no circumstances will win a cup or resign karlsson.

Enjoy watching him while it last because he is hitting free agency.

Why is San Jose a joke?

Tbh Chicago was truly a $90 million dollar team under a 60 plus cap. Dynasty. One of the stronger teams to win the cup since 90s wings. They lost a lot of players after that but still retooled.

Choke in the cup finals? You can’t even put a cup final list as choking. They’ve already made it that far and dominated everyone else well Getting there. Had they played anyone else they would have a cup. They simply lost of the superior team had they been able to play against in eastern opponent like the kings did they would have a cup

No shame losing to a better team

You are just running your mouth you know nothing of what his future will hold like all of us.

We can just base it off how’s he’s got in how he likes the organization he feels comfortable they can pay him the term money he’s worth and are on a team that is competing it’s all a player can ask. So it is positive

So your comment under no circumstance can sharks win a cup or sign him is false. its just completely incorrect as many will tell you there’s only two things guaranteed in life taxes and death. Anything else is a possibility so your statement holds zero value

Just looked at CapFriendly. Assuming a moderate increase next year to 82mil, with the new contracts kicking in, and assuming Point signs for a modest 8 million, you have 800k left while still needing to add 2 RHD and another forward. You will probably move one of Callahan or Miller to retain Stralman, but his cap hit is going to eat up a good chunk of the cap savings, and then you still need to add another forward and another RHD with whatever you have left.

And that’s assuming 63 points in 47 games Brayden Point signs for 8 million and not something more obscene (but completely justified).

TBL’s cap structure just doesn’t fit another 10+ million defenseman. You would have to move so many pieces your roster wouldn’t even resemble this year’s league best team.

Cap is going up to 83. Point at 8 million is probably at the high end, like I said....people outside Tampa are going to be pissed when they see how much Point signs for.

I see about 8 in Tampa too. Karlsson is going to want roughly 10.
I just can't see it happening.

Actually the remaining cap space is enough to fill the roster, we have a lot of guys on ELC. The biggest problem is Seattle, which I did not think about. They would be able to select Sergachev

Is there any reason to think this, or is it speculation? I'm legitimately curious, not trying to be combative at all.

Bettman came out earlier and said it looks like the cap for next year will be 83 million. However i wouldnt hold my breathe they have a tendency to over or under project. Wait til may or June for final announcement

Really? Why?

Personally, I think it's a given at this point that he stays with them. They are going to pay him well, give him the best term, and they are a legitimate contender.

I don't see the Sharks as a team you want to commit long-term to when you have the choice of the league (mostly). The core is just too old. Might contend for a year or two, but no A prospects and alot of aging players isn't a good environment for success after another couple of years IMO.

Couture, Kane, Hertl, Timo are too old? Ohh you mean Joe Thornton our third-line center, the complete cornerstone position of our team. Or that dude who plays for Toronto, Patrick Marleau?

They have a solid cupboard much underated

The core is a new nucleus of youth.

Meier 22- 70 plus point pace
Hertl 25-70 plus point pace
Kane 27-60 plus point place
Couture 29-70 plus point pace

The sharks are the fourth best record in the league. And are truly Pastor Patty and jumbo days they’ve survived it and we’re living it right now and I still think they can get better.

Throw that in with our ability to sign some goof overseas they can fill out the third and fourth line.

Wilson swing in the trades he needs to.

With Karlsson if he does sign Sharks have a strong youthful core sprinkled with some vets to compete for the next five years

I mean Burns, Pav, Third line Thorton, and yes 30 year old Couture, Braun, Vlasic in a couple of years. Yes Timo and Hertl will be good, but this team is going to need a tear down soon IMO with no new blood coming.

Erik Karlsson is a (much?) better player than Tavares and Stamkos.

Rumors were crazy for Tavares and Stamkos the whole last season before they came due UFA. It's been extremely quiet in regards to Karlsson in comparison.

Why? I know he was just traded, but he hasn't signed yet and if anything - he's likely to have less loyalty to SJ than he would have had with Ott under better circumstances - so i would think his odds of hitting free agency should be quite high.

Do you think he hits free agency? If so who are the top teams in contention, and what offers will he get? What would you offer for him?

Oilers don't have the cap space so I'll offer him a contract of $1 mil yr for 7 years, along with Katz new LA mansion. Completely furnished.

Canadian Billionaire Daryl Katz Set to Buy Most Expensive Home In L.A. History

Pretty sweet deal for Eric...L.A. real estate is a good investment.

Sure, Sharks can offer him millions of dollars but how many Stanley Cups can they offer? If the player is only into the money then yea, he'll sign instant but if the player is into greatness, he will sign with the real contenders. I think it depends on the 2019 Sharks Playoff run.

Hawks may be a possibility if they clear some cap space. Big IF. They would need a deadline trade ( Seabrook/Keith).
Some players wont be re signed. Kunitz, Ward and Krueger. Approx 6.0
Not sure about Crawford's injury status another 6.0 and Anisomov has been mentioned as a deadline trade 4.5
A big name will be coming Panerin-Stone or Karlsson. For this post I would bet Colorado or Vegas

It's not hard in that division to have a inflated point total with a bus ride travel schedule to most teams.

Which one of these teams in this division is a playoff team or in the playoff hunt or to be taken serious ?
La kings
Anaheim
Vancouver
Edmonton
Arizona

Let's be honest that division is horrible so the actual stats are inflated and deceiving .

Las Vegas is a solid dangerous team with 4 lines and plenty of cap space and a goalie who has won cups.

Your ignorance just continues to show why your opinion should be ignored.

The Pacific has had and continues to have the most miles travelled per season year after year in the NHL....did you just make something up because you have never looked at a map? Do you think San Jose is next to LA and when Thornton isn't playing a game he's down in Hollywood with movie stars?

It's a 6 hour drive from San Jose to LA or Anaheim. Read a book

lol I can't believe there are still people that want to talk about this subject and not understand that Karlsson and San Jose weren't planning on talking until the All-Star break because there was no point in doing so because they weren't going to sign him until after the trade deadline for the 8th year. If someone doesn't understand that about this situation and conveys that, you can summarily dismiss whatever ignorant opinion they may have. lol

Based on this year's schedule, I calculated what the take-home pay after taxes would be for San Jose and Tampa Bay (assuming the schedule is similar for the next 7-8yrs). I calculated it for each individual game and added the sum after 82, seeing as away games are paid based on the individual state and their taxes. Note that the total is the entire amount take home throughout the entire contract, in millions...

Total
Tampa Bay7 x 10.00041.113
San Jose8 x 10.00041.490
Tampa Bay7 x 11.00045.247
San Jose8 x 11.00045.639
Tampa Bay7 x 12.00049.360
San Jose8 x 12.00049.788

Make of it what you will...

Karlsson can play 30 minutes a game with any line. Ignoring the talent aspect, a d man like Karlsson is able to have a bigger impact on the overall game due to the nature of the position and how he can be deployed.

Glad to see we made it like 10 posts before the thread begins to come off the rails into a "my teams favorite player" vs Karlsson battle of who is more talented

Tavares: 5 30 goal seasons, 7 seasons of 50% FO's or better, 80 point player with Matt Moulson, Josh Bailey, and Anders Lee on his wing, an average 20 minutes of ice time in his career. Yup Karlsson is a "much" better player lol
