For sure. Plenty of teams with $11.5m in cap space waiting to trade assets for a 33 year old dman who doesn't play d. Guy is immovable. BOS can't even get a get more than a 5th round pick for Vezina winner Ullmark and his $5m cap hit.
Lol where did you pull that from?

Just like San Jose was supposed to win the cup with Karlsson...

and we were well on our way until the Refs let St. Louis have free reign to headshot and manhandle our players after they allegedy "messed up" on the Game 2 OT GWG call.

Sharks are rebuilding. How does adding a UFA aged player make any sense?

#1. The Leafs signed Klingberg 4 Days Ago. If they had any interest in Erik Karlsson, that interest dies when they sign a player who brings very, very similar things. There is no room on Toronto's D for all of Rielly, Karlsson, and Klingberg.

#2. Rewind 5 days ago, and yes, there's a justification for doing this deal from Toronto's standpoint, but it would still require substantial retention from San Jose, and their ability to value Nylander may be limited given that he may or may not be willing to sign long term there.
Funny thing is all the ignorant flack EK gets about his supposed non existent defence is what they are actually getting in Klingberg. That and a shell of his former self offensively.

If Karlsson's defensive game is a concern the Sharks have one slightly used defensive-minded Vlasic to offer too. :propeller

I wouldn’t want Karlsson for free.
Extremely talented player but mostly due to health issues he has had 1 year in the last 4 where he was worth his contract. One!

Why would anyone think you are going to get the good Karlsson again and not the one from the other 3 years.
I hope I’m wrong and this is the new normal for him but I think whatever team that does trade for him will ultimately regret it and that contract will be an absolute albatross.

IMO Nylander would be easy to flip during season for returning vale, not Karlsson. Would also create some interest in an otherwise glooming season for Sharks. Fun also to see EK on the Leafs.

Maybe add something from Leafs, how much retained by SJ ?

Are you sure of that?
The offers you're getting aren't all that huge
And given his demands, it not like a team can get any cap help from 3rd parties on the 10 million he's supposingly asking for

We have a point per game 27 year old forward capable of playing center and wing who’s rumored to want 9mil per season(which is a fair ask tbh given certain other players) the concern amongst fans is that we can’t afford to pay another player 9mil+ when coupled with the Tavares, Matthews and Marner contracts. I don’t think they solution is to trade him for an older more injury prone player who’s already making more than the amount we “can’t afford” due to depth concerns.

If the Leafs could keep Nylander and not worry about cap they would.

They don’t want to trade him, but they might have to in order to spread the cap around to the back end

Full stop.

He's also worth a lot more than Nylander.
With retention? If not, you have got to be joking.

Are there any other 40g, ppg wingers in the league that get as much disrespect as Nylander?

I hope the Sharks rebuild take another decade after some of the comments in this thread, just brutal.

Easier to slot Nylander in as one of the best wingers in the game in chase for a cup race., in most teams
Ek would require right circumstances.

Nylander also is a future asset in the right age, EK is a "roll the dice" and hope he is healthy and on for a couple of seasons. So yes I think it would be easier, safer and cheaper.

Well,if it's so easy then trade him to a team where it make at least some sense to
Then get back to us about acquiring Karlsson. Prospects and picks. It starts with Knies and a 1st

Finishing each season within 3-5 points of Connor, Robertson, Marchand...who would want that? When you go by goals, he's right there with Tkachuk and Marchand as well.

Oh I love Karlsson. I am championing him in every thread I can.

But to say a full cost Karlsson has more value than 27 year old Nylander is just silly. There is a reason they've been trying to move him for 2 years now. His contract is brutal, and will require a sizeable retention. Even with retention, do you really think he gets more than Nylander?

I hope once Nylander ends up on another team he actually gets some respect.

Erik Karlsson is going to be 34 next season making $11.5m, and has been often injured. Before last year he had negative value with retention, at least now SJ has a chance to move him. Nylander is 28 with a $7m cap hit, in his prime, and has never been injured his entire career. It's not even close.

Honestly, with Karlsson 50% retained I wouldn't give up more than a 1st round pick. And SJ would have to take Murray and Brodie back in the deal to make the money work.

Ah! Do you think Nylander is only going to demand 7 per season after his current contract runs out after this season?
Can an acquiring team get help from a 3rd parry to bring down the costs?
You know there's another 40 goal scorer still sitting around waiting to be traded
Not like a Sharks fan started this thread

Did you read any of this thread before regurgitating that premise or just out for an afternoon troll?
There are posts in this thread suggesting SJ will not be retaining on EK. I LOOK at his previous 4 seasons before I look at last year

I suppose it all depends on what's being offered. I've seen many people suggest the Sharks will have to retain 50% in order to get anything decent in return.
Pretty sure Grier is on board retaining but not half
Why stop at 4 season?

Grier would be crazy to retain a heavy amount. I say 20% at most.
