Ok, I'm in.
To CGY - Karlsson, 2025 1st
To PIT - Kuzmenko, 2025 2rd (Col)
Calgary take on full unabated salary 10M for two years
Pittsburgh takes on a reclamation project of sorts.
Greater risk to Calgary due to term.
Pittsburgh free up immediate cap space of 4.5M, 10M for next season if they don't resign Kuzmenko for cheap. Otherwise Kuzmenko is off the books at season's end.
Why would PIT do this?
Cost for them to get from out under cap wise is their first, partially offset by a second. Kuzmenko, despite his poor season, has talent coming out of the ying-yang. Maybe a new environment can unlock it and could probably be re-signed for less than his current cap hit.
Why would CGY do this?
Right hand skilled d-man even if poor defensively. They have the cap room to take on the full cap hit over the term of the contract. Gain a 1st round pick for their on-going re-build.
Too much? Not enough?
