Schaefer took a puck to the risk which resulted in a Brampton goal.

Spence is good. He has an arrogance to him, but he gets the job done.
I didn’t watch live but I’ve got the replay going. Martone is great although I didn’t see him do much tonight. Spence is also great, obviously, and when he’s on like he was tonight he’s more dangerous than anybody.

But so much of what Schaefer does doesn’t show up in a boxscore. Like the four-second stretch I just watched where made Luke Misa look silly twice. With about 6:30 to go in the third period (hi Shawn!), Misa comes down 1-on-1 on Schaefer. He dumps it in the corner and when he goes to chase it, Schaefer steps up and puts him on his ass.

Then Schaefer pivots and gets it in the corner, and comes around the net with crazy acceleration and edges, going wide around the next forechecker like it was me chasing him. Then he when he gets above the hash marks Misa takes a run at him. Quick little hip turn by Schaefer and all of a sudden Misa’s throwing a shoulder at nobody. And up the ice Schaefer goes. I think he got a shot on goal out of it, and the play died there, but what a subtle little sequence that was.

Also, I tease Bednard on here for the “time left in the period” habit he has, but he really does a great job. It’s obvious he works incredibly hard, is really knowledgeable about opposing players, and probably has seven or eight Otters tattoos on his body somewhere.

Trevor is also good at what he does and he works hard too (though somebody might tell him he doesn’t have to fill every millisecond of dead air). But I wish whoever was in that chair would have played or coached at this level. Having a typical team of traditional broadcaster and former player is just so much better to watch. You watch London’s or Kitchener’s broadcasts and it’s night and day.

This is not a comment on either guy - just how they’ve been assembled.

Anyway, just some not-terribly-important thoughts from a guy who can’t get to Erie often and who relies on radio and TV.

He was actually at the game Wednesday and a buddy of mine had lunch with him that morning. He is billeting with Malcolm Spence.
Seems like the hold up is related to more paper work / processing stuff than anything else.

That's what I think it is. He should be in the line up this weekend pending nothing more happens.

Keegan Knight was sent down.

Shame he was sent down. I think he has potential. Perhaps he will make strides like Henry did and be more of a contributor next season.

My guess is they look for an NCAA for D to add depth to the back end. Of course it wouldn’t hurt to look at the goalie situation.

If Callum is as good as they say he is, DB might actually get credit for a decent move with no loss.

They wouldn't get an NCAA player for D unless you mean NCAA commit currently playing JR A. There won't be any players currently in the NCAA move to the OHL for several reasons. They are already on contracts with their school with scholarships and they are most likely aged out anyways. Average NCAA player is 23 and most don't even start until they are 21 which is overage for the OHL.

Agree they need a depth D, a defensive D

Yes that’s exactly what I meant. Likely they will look at the pipeline of NCAA commits. This would be the best case possible for Erie. Spend nothing and get the reward of talent.

Erie drafted a kid in 23, Turner, a right shot dman who I think is committed to Colgate.

This ref Mitchell Hardy is brutal. Waived off the Hughes goal and was overturned. Watched Spence get thrown down behind the net and did nothing. Then Fimis gets his stick slashed out of his hands in front of him, no call and Soo scores on the other end. It's been absence I commented on a ref or refs, bur he has been brutal.

Awhile, not absence.
