DB is and has been close friends with SB for basically decades and DB, based on his comments, essentially hired SB or at least pushed heavily for him. Seems like an odd thing to do, to hire a guy if you know he’s going to be replacing you. It also seems odd if not negligent to let an underperforming GM, who missed on the last 2 hires, make the next coaching/GM hire if you know you are getting rid of DB.

Now all that said, Erie has made numerous poor decisions the last 5 years so this wouldn’t be the first poor decision for them to make. In fact, it sounds like the exact thing they would do.

Yeah, the Butler thing seriously concerns me. He was a winning coach in the OHL for many years but I'm skeptical that he's the answer in 2023. I'll give him a chance, just hope they didn't sign a long contract. Hopefully somebody on the thread goes to the town hall thing & can report on it.

In other news, are there are any sure fire studs in the upcoming OHL draft? Erie in lottery pick territory again 😂

He seems like a great kid with what little action we've seen from him. Pretty skilled with his hands just either bottom 6 or injuries have kept him off the ice.

He also seems like he is one of the more joking around personalities that help lift the mood of those around him. Might never be a top 6 on the team, but a great kid all around.
His billet has said he’s one of the best kids they’ve billeted. Messier will play board games, watch TV, and do puzzles with his billets. Many of the kids this particular billet has had would come home and go straight to their rooms.

Another night in the OHL where the refs call a terrible penalty on us. Morton didn’t slew foot Vierling.

Even if Erie wins the lottery, they have to be concerned on who will report. Despite poor seasons in the past, this was actually the worst season yet. They had higher expectations but yet they fired their 2nd coach in just 1 calendar year, they hired an outdated, defensive first coach, and they currently have their worst winning percentage since 2012-2013. Things actually got worse this year if that was even possible. It’s clear from the outside that they have no idea what they are doing anymore. I just don’t understand how DB is still here. His hire of SB speaks volumes to how out of touch he is too. It’s a dumpster fire now. SB is not and never will be the answer

The Butler hiring strikes me as an interim placeholder-stop the bleeding- while they try to find another Knoblauch. Stan can get the kids heads on straight and prepped for another young coach next season. Just my take on it...

Hope you are right. In theory it makes sense but again, just looking at the moves this team has made in recent years - they don’t really strike me as a franchise that gets it or is investing the proper resources. But given SB age, it’s not like you can expect him to be the answer for 5-10 years so there has to be some of that in there, hiring him for short term stability. Regardless, I think it was a lazy hire.

Since the team wants to have a public forum on the state of the team - I’m working on my own written piece, the State of Otters, from a fans perspective. Hope to have it out by the end of the year

What kind of thought process does the OHL use in setting the schedule? Here’s the Otters schedule next weekend. Friday night away at Kitchener, return home for a Saturday night game against Peterborough, then make the drive to Hamilton for a Sunday 2:00 game (Hamilton is off Saturday so they will be fresh).

And we play Hamilton at home this Tuesday. Why couldn’t Tuesday’s game be in Hamilton and next Sunday’s game be in Erie?

Been saying this for years. Erie always has the road/home/road or home/road/home 3 in 3 or 3 in 4 sequences. Never has made sense and even when they were winning 50 games a year, they lost games simply from exhaustion/travel. It’s a joke.

Morton is skating in warmups so no suspension. Those refs were ridiculous.

No sign of Cohen. He’s still out with a concussion.

William Moore with the Toronto Marlboros. He’s an ‘07 but played with Spence and Misa on the ‘06 Mississauga Senators the past few years before this one. He’s very good. Reportedly applied for exceptional status for this year but only Misa got it.

Ryan Roobroeck on the London Jr. Knights. Big, strong fast centre. Also played a year up until this year. Younger brother of Dylan (Oshawa Generals). Apparently he applied for ES last year as well.

Kulakov game misconduct for a fight? He’s had so many fights, some worse than this and didn’t get game misconducts, did I miss something?

They dropped gloves before the face off is what the penalty reads so might be a different set of rules given the circumstance.

I figured these jerseys wouldn’t go as high as other specialty jerseys. I wonder why Jim Waters picked those two jerseys(nothing wrong with that).

The Kids Takeover is a neat idea.

He gave away the Kulakov one to a family. I think he kept the one for Fimis.

There were a lot less people bidding tonight in section 220. Was a prime opportunity to pick up multiple players, game worn, for roughly the price of one from the store.

Cam's nose was split pretty good, not sure if it was from the hit or the fight. It didn't look like he got hit and Arty had a huge welt above his left eye.

Let's hope one or both are available against Hamilton.

I ordered a Cancer Awareness jersey from the store because I knew that auction would be way more than I could afford. I’m still waiting for it to come back from customization.

I thought about sticking around but decided against it.

Jim Waters is a great guy. Hopefully with some changes we can get back to winning again.

Are the rules for overager based on birth year only or does birth month come into play too? Johnston was born October 2003-will he be considered overage for the 2023-2024 season or the 2024-2025 season?

Teams can carry four overage, 20 year old, players on their roster to begin the regular season, with a limit of three able to dress in a game lineup. So, it’s based on birth year. Johnston is an OA next year along with Saganiuk, Bressette, Gilmartin, Kulakov and all 2003s across the league.

Since when has an interference call ever been worth 5 mins?
There has always been both a minor and major penalty depending on the severity of the interference. Majors were rarely called before the crackdown on headshots and blindside hits.

Yes. Jan.1 is the cutoff. Players having their 20th birthday before that date are eligible.
