Otters 3 Wolves 8 Final

Otters played a good first period led 2 - 1 but the rest of the game shot 9 times, Sudbury scored three shorthanded goals, LaLonde allowed four and was pulled, Downey finished the game and also allowed four. An embarrassing game against a team that isn’t that good
Sudbury isn't that good??? Beat Sarnia and Windsor the last two weeks. Take Barrie in OT. Beat Flint a month ago. Not sure about your statement but hey whatever floats your boat.

They came into the game in 9th place in a conference with 10 teams. As a fan of the team who ended the day in 9th place in a conference with 10 teams, I don't think you can get upset over someone saying that isn't good

Dude we’re in a mix of five teams by 8 points to 4th. That statement was not well thought out.

When teams aren’t good, they trade away their top players who are about to age out… Oshawa traded Moore/Harrison. Sudbury traded Holmes for that very reason.

Sudbury (and Oshawa) have been in 7th-9th place for like 2 months+ straight. Neither are good this year lol

You’re also not within 5 points of 4th, or even within 5 points of 5th

What metric would you use to deem if a team is not good? If they’re .500 is the most common one.. Sudbury has played 51 games and is under .500…

They’ve won 21 games this season and lost 30… you could argue they’re better on paper than they’ve played, I definitely agree with that. But you can’t argue with someone who says they haven’t been good this year

Now that we hijacked the Erie thread to talk about wolves and generals you both are right, it is 8 points from 4th to 9th as WJ pointed out and really most of these teams are really good nor really bad, just mediocre. The season will likely end with three of these teams likely at 789 with a max of 5 point spread between top and bottom

Being 19th in the league I don’t think Erie is in a position to be embarassed losing to any team.

The real question is can a team that’s 19th in the league feel ashamed losing to a better team ? They can be unhappy about it but the fact remains that 18 teams are currently better than they are.

How far you are from 6th doesn’t mean you’re good… it’s possible to have a conference with several teams who aren’t very good lol.

Regardless, the point was he can’t freak out when someone says his team isn’t that good when they’re under .500 this far into the season. Not really a debate. Seems pretty standard

I guess Erie should beat the Soo tonight as well as they are not a good team. Not!!! 3-0 in the first. Butler is going to blow a gasket!!!

After Sudbury just lost to Niagara, I demand an apology WJ…. JK, I actually like you, you’re a funny guy on here, but I wasn’t wrong and the statement was well thought out haha;).

(Erie fans if you can try to stream the Ontario vs BC tournament opening game tonight for the Canada Games. A ton of high draft eligibles on Ontario, one very well could be going to Erie top 5)

Honestly I'm floored with the loss today. Yeah I do apologize we suck. I hope we tank now and finish in the lottery and get the number 1 pick. I'm so over this team's lack of effort on the road, the power play, the penalties and the terrible goaltending. Oh and the brain farts by Mania. I don't want Ottawa or North Bay first round so might as well stick a fork in it now. This team had the opportunity to take 7th today and it looked like they wanted to play stick hockey in the hotel hallway.

So, people of Erie….what do you think of the team since Butler took over the bench? I haven’t seen any games in person or on TV since, so I’m curious what you think.

Although I do see lines are consistent now. What other changes have you seen?

I think the biggest thing is just accountability. Even the best players are now being forced and held accountable for their actions and performance. Don't try, don't play. Don't perform, miss a shift...you're seeing more from our younger players which is forcing our skilled players to try even harder for ice.

From a team standpoint, this season is likely a tryout for next year for those returning and our goalies have to be worried. We will continue to be a roller coaster where we win some games we're not supposed to but also are dropping more than winning.

Short term goal, the team improves greatly as individuals are concerned vs a team goal of playoffs. Stan likely won't be able to implement a new system he wants and is stuck with what the kids know, hustle, and skills. It will be a grind the rest of the way and let's just hope they respond to the adversity.

Received this invitation to a "Town Hall Meeting" last week:

The Otters will be hosting a Town Hall event on Monday, February 27th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at the UPMC Stadium Club. Hear from Head Coach Stan Butler, Owner/President Jim Waters, and VP of Business Operations Chad Westerburg as they give a State of the Otters. This event will give fans a chance to hear Stan Butler's vision and future of the team and answer questions from fans.

Please register for the event by clicking here– registration will close at Noon on Wednesday, February 22nd. More details regarding the event are listed below.

I give credit to the team for trying to reach out to fans in the midst of this disastrous season.

Should anything be read into the fact that Dave Brown is not mentioned?

One surely has to be curious as to the future given the fact Stan has basically been a coach and GM for a good part of his tenure in the OHL.

Perhaps we will learn more about the future and I have a feeling the changes aren't complete from top down, yet.

I can’t imagine Stan taking this job without wanting more. He’s already a well known coach and has had success in the past. The second Stan was hired I figured he would become the next GM.

DB is and has been close friends with SB for basically decades and DB, based on his comments, essentially hired SB or at least pushed heavily for him. Seems like an odd thing to do, to hire a guy if you know he’s going to be replacing you. It also seems odd if not negligent to let an underperforming GM, who missed on the last 2 hires, make the next coaching/GM hire if you know you are getting rid of DB.

Now all that said, Erie has made numerous poor decisions the last 5 years so this wouldn’t be the first poor decision for them to make. In fact, it sounds like the exact thing they would do.

Great night for Alex Messier…first OHL goal/point that holds up as the game winner.

He seems like a great kid with what little action we've seen from him. Pretty skilled with his hands just either bottom 6 or injuries have kept him off the ice.

He also seems like he is one of the more joking around personalities that help lift the mood of those around him. Might never be a top 6 on the team, but a great kid all around.
