Appears we are going with the SB blueprint. Whether that pans out here or not, I don't know.

Big back liner

Atleast he has some size. Hopefully we can develop him so he makes it on the roster.

Our back line will be full of size this coming year and hopefully next season too.

Holomego is listed at 6'3
Henry is 6'2
Sauder 6'1
Alboim 6'2
Schaefer 6'1

Sova and Daviault are small at 6' Hahaha

I like this pick at goalie...

A little smaller so to speak at 6', but there is NO rush to bring him into the OHL on an accelerated timeline. He can have a full season to develop by being sent down. Hopefully we can slow play need to move up so we are able to maximize his potential.

Based on what I’ve read, seems like a reach at 24 but again that’s par for the course for this team the last few years
Don't read the online rankings they are bogus. Tough skilled kid that will fit in nicely with Shaefer and Spence.

Heard he was raw. Some skill there but will take time, if he gets there. So sounds like a guy that won’t be ready year 1? Idk I just feel it’s a slight reach. I’m sure with his size he will get a chance but if he’s just going to provide limited production and barely play because he’s not quite ready, that’s not great either. But of course we will find out in 2-3 years with all these guys

Also, my overall vibe with this draft is just low outside of Schaefer. I understand Erie wanting to get bigger but did that mean any 6’0 or under skaters were not options until late rounds? There was a stretch in drafting where Erie went extreme in one direction, though not by design but just through trying to accumulate as much skill, and they got small really fast. Now it seems like Erie will try to overally compensate and go extreme in the other direction, though this time by design which can be more dangerous, and only take players with a certain size. I just didn’t like the approach because it seems like Erie said “we want to get big. Here are the players with size we like” and as such, they might have missed or ignored other better options, better value, in their earlier picks. Time will tell but I’m just pointing out a potential concern for me with this class - that Erie had blinders on because they tried too hard to “get bigger!!” which limited their personal drafting pool and then they missed better value players. I also didn’t like going Dinis in round 4, a 2006 born. So now Erie just has 1 2007 forward prospect in the 1-5th rounds? You are only going to get a 2006 or older out of the u18/imports so that’s not an option either. You are pretty much counting on Royston to carry the forward group given the limited resources you used there. Don’t like their odds on this forward group being much down the road

Again doesn’t mean the class sucks because who knows, I am not close to being a fortune teller, and time will tell but it’s just the vibe I got with the draft which was meh

In the U18 draft, could it be possible we go after Maverick Fletcher? He’s an 06, 6’1, 172 lbs. he played for the SOO Thunderbirds with a 1.60 GGA in 27GP.
I was thinking the same thing about going after a G. Not necessarily him but you could be onto a potential prospect. I think it makes sense to go G in the u18 and then F in the import

You do realize Royston had 35 goals and 40 assists in 40 games this year, right? You should be very excited to have this guy.

I think the argument to be made is such...

Did he have such a physical advantage in juniors that helped him dominate where his skills, skating, and hands may have been slightly underdeveloped?

Is he a true talent ready to contribute right now at the OHL level and his skating is elite, his hands are amazing, and he didn't utilize his size to just impose his will on the league?

Having never seen the kid play I really hope it is the second scenario, however history tells us the smaller kids are typically those who have to rely on an elite skillset to even be remotely successful at higher levels and larger players take a year or two to develop.

I think this is the route they should go with to get as many prospects as possible. Even if they don’t report, you have the chance to possibly get some “bigger” defenseman in U18. Get the best import possible.

The U18 draft isn’t always successful, but shoot your shot and see what happens.

Did Vital Dinis not qualify for the U18 draft? It’s actually a MM draft correct? If he did qualify…..doesn’t Erie have the 1st pick in the U18 draft also?

Yes which is why it was an odd, pretty dumb pick but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have been taken by someone else. A few other OAs were taken in the draft. I disagree where Erie took him, not that they took him. To me, you should take your shot at him in 6-8th round, not 64th overall when you didn’t have a 3rd. But this is why Erie is consistently at the bottom. Poor decisions. But hope he is instantly on the roster for this to make any sense. Otherwise they look super dumb

Boom. I scouted him out almost a week ago.

So our top pick in the u18 draft, again, seems like an Alfano type player. Really big body, north/south player So I'm guessing the elite skating may not be there.

It is almost as if we could have two completely different types of offensive lines heading into camp.

Hammond is late bloomer.. AA player all the way up . Big body , powerful skater and has some skill . Arrived on the scene this last season and precisely the type of player profile the U18 draft was/is intended for . He should make your team

I'm not saying Royston is bad, but he was playing on a line with Owen Griffen, the top player in the ETA and a big point producer. So Royston isn't terrible, but his stats definetly got bumped up playing with Griffen. Again, it is a big reach considering who was still on the board. For example, Will McFadden, Jacob Cloutier, and Tanner Lam were picked shortly after him, and I get if you want size but there were players like Ethan Weir, Jimmy Lombardi, and Parker Snelgrove picked shortly after him aswell. I think Royston has a ton of potential, but there were definetly safer bets than him.
