Here it is. Nice to see the hands, this is by my count his second goal of the year 1:1 with goalie (breakaway, SO, or all alone in front). Probably his single biggest area of improvement but there's evidence he's got the finishing talent.

Future Barkov

All right. Yes, when Lane is quiet, we are quiet. When Lane is loud, we are loud.

But, jokes aside, enough is enough.

Let's end this debate right now. What Lane Hutson is doing is HISTORICAL. Period.

It was an amazing rookie battle this year with players even like Will Smith/Marco Kasper/CutterGauthier/Jackson Blake/Zach Bolduc/Maxim Tsyplakov having great rookie seasons, let alone the big dogs like Celebrini/Michkov/Wolf.

But with all that being said, Lane Hutson has been having a historic rookie season. I don't care about the critics and the haters, it's a fact, he is having a historic rookie season. Not Celebrini, not Michkov, not Wolf. Lane Hutson is.

If he doesn't win the Calder, it would be a complete miss by the league/media/voting. But, if he doesn't win the Calder, the league will likely witness a revenge tour next season and for the rest of his career. But what will be even more impressive is that he probably doesn't put much importance in it and will continue to become more and more dominant in this league.

Lane Hutson is a dangerous player. And the league knows it. We know it. We are embracing it.

Is it Hutson or is it the team?

Hutson played 104 minutes during those 4 games and is a +4 during that time.

Every other dman is a - player during that stretch. The jackeye - Savard pair is -5, Carrier is -6, Matheson is -3.

Good things are happening when he's in the ice, bad things without him.
If anything it strenghtens Hutson's claim to the award. He shined like a beacon in the dark.

From what I observed this year, after Hutson was quiet for a few games, he will have a nice production for the next 5-10 games. Before today game, he was kind of quiet for the last 3-4 games by his standard. I really have high hope that he will finish the season strong. The record of 60 assists by a rookie defenseman will be for sure broken by Hutson

Really good game by Lane. With the team MTL is building, he will be a perennial 60+ points d-man for the foreseeable future.

As for the Calder, many more games to go. But to beat him Michkov and Celebrini need to get to 70 points, which seems unlikely.
It should take a lot more than that. Hutson might get to 70 himself. At this point, Celebrini and Michkov would need 100+ to be equivalent, and that’s no exaggeration. Hutson is 5th in scoring for defensemen; the current 5th ranked forward is Connor McDavid with 90 points.

But is it a points race? Forwards primary goal is to score, defensemen primary goal is to prevent scoring. If one is better at their secondary responsibility much more than their primary responsibility, is that award worthy?

For the record, I think the Calder should go to Celebrini. He's the best of the 3 all around.
This is a truly dazzling display of mental gymnastics skill. Your grace and technical elegance in performing these extremely difficult maneuvers is awe-inspiring.

I was going to make a circle jerk joke, but this is better said.

Hutson's season is awesome. He'll probably win at this point because he's accelerating to the finish line. The other three are having amazing seasons as well for different reasons. "It's not even close" and "different galaxies" and "durr the other players suck" posts are very tiresome.
Hab fan here. I agree. All 4 are deserving but i have Lane leading the pack as of right now. Very close race.
What also sucks are the same usual suspects trying to diminish his season by going on how he's terrible at defense , his plus/minus , secondary assist ,being 20 and every other piece of crap that they can throw against the wall in hope it sticks.

I don't understand how he's basically our best defenseman defensively at 5 on 5 night in night out in his rookie season, to the eye test he looks good but I'm not sure if it's because all the other habs dmen are donkeys.

Lane is built different he plays at a level that other guys just don't care enough to achieve , it's a mentality thing with him that's how he overcomes the size and weight. His use of leverage and angles is crazy for his size and he has no fear lol

He's getting close to 70 pts this season. I believe he will be a perennial PPG d-man.

Hutson surely plays his part, but it's hard to say that he was the most important contributor.

Hutson had a great game, and his 1st assist was a beauty, but no need to exaggerate

I don't think it's some laughable overexaggeration at all to be honest. I absolutely came away from that game thinking he was the best player on the ice. For either team.

Just came across this too

Player: xGF with Hutson on ice | xGF with Hutson off the ice

Barkov: 38.4% | 96.6%
Reinhart: 37.8% | 82.8%
Verhaeghe: 42.7% | 78.2%
Marchand: 12.6% | 86.5%
Bennett: 21.3% | 69.1%
Samoskevich: 30.5% | 86.2%
Lundell: 20.9% | 41.2%

It's just your imagination

Torts cut his ice time for a chunk of the season and his play suffered because of it. People with agendas spun it to make it sound like Michkov couldnt hang and Torts had no choice but to cut his ice time...which was a false narrative.

People like Torts ruin the game. The league is better when a talent like Michkov is allowed to shine, not tied to a bench. Really dont understand why people defend people like Torts.
In my limited viewings of Michkov, he has played a lot of hero hockey - flying the d-zone before his team had possession and leaving his team hemmed in. Torts was 100% right in trying to get him to play within the system and not screw his team over even if that meant that it would limit his offense.
