Dustin Wolf needs to be in this discussion as of today. He's pulled a mediocre team, whose top two scorers are defensemen pacing for around 50 points this year, with expectations of being on the outside looking in, into the playoff race, and only a couple of points out of the division lead.

He's a goalie, so he won't win it while other legitimate options exist, but he needs to be in the conversation.

He will be considered if he plays more than 40gp. He's been terrific so far, but only playing half of his team's games won't be enough to be seriously considered. That being said, Calgary is doing the right thing and they shouldn't put too much pressure on him. Calder doesn't mean much after all

Smith is also starting to creep into the discussion, 3 straight 2 point games. After starting the year 0 for 8 he now has 10 points in 13 games.

That’s true. Though funny enough Celebrini has two points today so he keeps rolling.

I’m sure there will be back and forth between Celebrini and Michkov but I feel Celebrini has surpassed him now as of today.

Celebrini tying Michkov for the goals lead does probably push him into the lead. Be curious to see though if he can sustain this level of production as teams start to game plan for him more. He’s on an absolute heater right now though.

Wolf will probably be at 50 games by the end of the year, especially if Vladar gets traded.
I think Wolf's numbers might start to decrease though (I mean he's currently like top 5 in every category so it is still going to be impressive), Flames are barely scoring and Wolf HAS to play his balls off to win games. I think it'll be just too much for him over a full season. Team has played some bad defence the past couple games.

If Celebrini can keep this play up (and improve) I think it's his, he's been electric so far.

Man I can already see the canadian bias crap when Celebrini wins the Calder right?

Yup and isn’t Celebrini near the top of the league in takeaways and zone entries? Decent defensively too.
Elliot Freidman mentioned last night that according to Puck media that Celebrini lead not only rookies but the entire league in puck battles.

That being said the calder is probably 80% about counting stats.

Matvei Michkov: 17 points in 22 games
Macklin Celebrini: 13 points in 14 games

I don't really feel like "Michkov is better offensively" argument quite holds any water.

Michkov is 19 points in 23 games now...

To add to this, celebrini has 11 even strength points and 2 powerplay points.

Michkov has 8 even strength points and 9 powerplay points.

And somehow Michkov is +/- 0 while Celebrini is -4...

I call that the Barclay Goodrow effect. He was a even player until Goodrow got stapled on his wing for a half dozen games. Before that game he had actually never gotten a minus until his first shift with Goodrow.

Celebrini also came back from injury when Walman missed some games due to injury/missing treatment. As our best defenseman (all our defenseman are -1 or worse besides him) on one of the worst defensive teams in the league, that definitely hurt him.

It still means the teams play different type of hockey, and it's even without knowing about Tortorella...
