Here’s my take :

I think dubas presser was genuine. His concern is his family. Outside of matthews if anyone has a pulse as to whether matthews would stay in Toronto it’s dubas. Well if dubas stays, and matthews strings him along and doesn’t resign and bolts July 2024, dubas instantly becomes the most hated person in the GTA. Want to know who else would get the brunt of this? His family! His family wouldn’t live a normal life and need security. I think that’s why he mentioned his family as he’s played this scenario out in his mind. He’s the one that gave matthews 5 yrs and the ntc. And dubas knows he and his family would get the backlash. Not saying it would be right that his family gets harassed at let’s say the grocery store, but people will be people.
His family already gets harassed which is why he said he's thinking of leaving. You fans do this to yourselves. It's been 55 years. Are you tired of running ppl out of town by now?

I'm not disagreeing with you that it's scum behaviour, but there are shitty people everywhere in society. There are 100% shitty people in every fanbase in every sport. How many time do you see videos of people in the US fighting with eachother in the stands? Pouring beer on other people? Plenty of current and former players have shared screenshots of f***ed up messages they get on social media. There are scumbags everywhere. You also don't know definitively that that is what Dubas was referring to.

Anyways, if you don't want to support the team any longer, then that's your choice of course, but IMO just rip the bandaid off instead of posting on HFBoards in the offseason. Just my opinion.
He said toronto has the most toxic fanbase. Not the only toxic fanbase. She you gonna move to the murder capitol of your country bc everywhere you go has ppl and killers? NO.

When did he say his family was harrassed? I'm not saying it didn't happen, genuinely don't recall hearing or reading it.

Your murder example is a bit a extreme, but since he brought up Florida in particular, while you're less likely to be recognized at the store, you're also more likely to get killed in the same store while having to raise your children in a backwards fascist state. Again, using the Florida example, you think Dubas of all people wants to live there? There are a multitude of factors to look at when deciding where to live and work.

clearly your brain is too shallow to understand the 24/7 demands of the job. Money is not everything.
Huh? Thats quite a bold statement....air traffic controllers make $100k or less and have far more stress...and they arent shallow minded either....why would ToneDog be?

The number of people who are finatics is based on your fan base. If you have 10 fans and 1 is a nutjob or if you have 100 fans and 10 are not jobs. We have probably the LARGEST fan base in all of hockey. Which means we have the most nutjobs. Which amounts to an ever increasingly shitty environment for player's, their family and friends.

It really left a bad taste in my mouth that Jake Gardiner's wife was receiving death threats online. I just don't think I hear about this same time of intensity from other markets.

I would much rather live in Florida than Canada right now. But this is off topic.

I'm ambivalent to that. He bet on the group and lost, and I question whether he's too emotionally invested to moved forward from that.

That being said, I hope who ever is brought in builds on or atleast maintains the back office/ overall organizational strength that he's built
The one thing Dubas has proven is he is willing to alter his mindset. He said it himself, everything is on the table moving forward.

If someone is going to trade away one of the core pieces, i think Dubas is the best bet to do it.

Sorry couldn't help it even though it's wayyy off topic so it's all I'll say but you'd rather live in f***ing Florida then anywhere in Canada?

That state is so f***ed up. f*** their beaches etc... its a really messed up state with a nut job racist piece of shit running it but whatever floats your boat.

JT is not going to waive his NMC IMO. He has a young family, he is "settled" so to speak.

Also, if you look at Tavares' point production on even strength in the regular season he is not even top 50 in points/game. He got most of his production on powerplay. I don't think Tavares is going to carry this team on even strength.

I would start by trading Marner, really put in the effort to see what Matthews wants. If the ask from Matthews is ridiculous then I'd trade him too.

I am convinced that Matthews, Marner and Nylander together is not the "core" that is going to produce in the playoffs. They work well when there is time and space. In playoffs when time and space is not available they can't do much because they can't create space for themselves.

We need a different team composition IMO. If that takes two years or more than two years thats fine.

People keep using Ovi as an example, but they fail to mention how Ovi plays. The dude hits, finishes his checks and is a monster. The Ovi narrative is like comparing chalk and cheese.

In terms of Avs, yes they traded 2 of their core pieces because they made a decision that the core isn't getting it done and they need a different team composition. They achieved that by retooling.

I think we can retool faster than that depending on if Matthews is willing to re-sign at a reasonable AAV (same with Willy).
About JT we don't know what he would do if he was forced into a different role by the next coach. He might just get a bit worse next year or he might be a different player. His game wilted almost the day Keefe over and never really came back. Thats being pretty optimistic of course but it makes as much sense as as that he suddenly grew dumber and slower over the summer of 2019. Of course 47 goals isn't coming back at age 33 but maybe there is more there.

About trading two of the core three you might do that, but does it seem like Shanny is brave or desperate enough and would be supported in that drastic of a change? I don't. Remember he thought running it back was a viable strategy last summer. It kind of seems like he has been brainwashed into Kyles original vision. I think moving one is a monumental sea change for them and unfortunately I don't think they move Matthews no matter how excessive his ask is.

We don't know what Mitch's ask would be because thats a year away so dealing him means that Willie has come in at a good number. If I had to speculate I think "I just wanted what I could get" will make it easy as he will push for Kaprizov/Ranta money and he is so clearly behind them he will become the agent of change. He will be the message to the other two that when everyone asks for too much of the cap, there are consequences now.

I have a feeling we get Dubas news today. Just a hunch.

Oh, and that hunch also says he's staying but Keefe is gone.
I'm sure there is pressure either way for a decision as they really can't let this linger too long. if the stress and personal aspects are legit I could also see a forced timeline (i.e., if they say they need an answer this week) pushing Dubas out of the job, since it won't be a decision he wants to rush.

Running who out of town exactly?

Welcome to the big league. This is not Soo you are going to hide in the corner and nobody is going to notice you. This is what we pay you for, this is the job. Managing goliath that is the Toronto Maple Leafs

JFJ is the son of John Ferguasson Sr. Comes from one the most celebrated hockey family, having exposure to hockey all his life, worked with the St.Louis Blues, worked in NHL and he couldn't handle this city. Welcome to the big league

Running out of town you say?

Let me ask you this., If Boston Bruins had 3 of the highest paid players in the league, and you couldn't make it to first round 5 years in a row, you think they keep you employed at all?

Their fans would have dragged him to the street by now asking for every penny back. Welcome to the big league

Kyle is way out of his element here. It just occured to him how difficult this city can be on you. We let go off Pat Quinn who was beloved by this city. We let go of Pat Burns.

Welcome to the big league Kyle. Welcome to the show.

This city has ran Pat Quinn out of town and we loved Pat. He was the last GM/ coach to bring us any success.

Sounds like Dubas's family had a tough year which says to me that dumb leaf fans harassed them. If that's the case. Burn the org to the ground, we don't deserve anything.

Just because a family had a tough year doesn't mean they were harrased. There are no evidence of that what so ever. Leafs fans, however, demanding aren't even close to Quebecois or the Bostoners. Leafs fans in most cases are very civilized and respectful

Sure there will be cases people posting stuff on Twitter or responding to social media. But welcome to life in 2023.

Burn this Org to the gound? strong words bud

We dont' deserve anything?

Oommmm.... I didn't know we were the Chicago Blackhawks,
Vancouver burned half of their city down and so did Quebec
I guess you don't know about Jason Bailey and Anaheim Ducks, they wouldn't let him on a bus because of his religion
I guess you don't know about Mike Danton story

Yeah lets do it. Lets come down to 4 nhl teams who has no off ice issues

This isn't blowing out 1st round picks at the TDL to fil hole though. He really doesn't have much of a track record at value for value deals. Kadri I guess but that wasn't really a success. His attachment to his pieces may flaw his vision. I don't see an advantage to him making the deals, keeping in mind with the time available its probably going to be Pridham rather than an outsider.

Does this guy have any background at all in player personnel?
Thought he was just a Finance guy?

No point in running anything back at this point. I personally just want to see Dubas back making decisions about the team moving forward.

If someone new is at the helm they too need to look to switch things up with the roster.

I said "If I find out" And since I found out how Jake Gardiner's wife was treated...nothing would surprise me about how low this fanbase can behave. If he opts to not sign...we will find out a bit more details as to what caused that.

The Kadri trade was bad but Dubas had to do it. The attachment to his pieces is overblown imo; Dubas has traded a lot of his guys away, just never a big piece.

When it comes to the core, it's been the whole orgs MO to avoid trading them. That changed when they lost this year, Dubas said it himself, everything is on the table. I want to see what he does now that the organization is recognizing major change is needed.

Here you are on the low franchise forum, posting away.

Lucky for you, you don't watch other sports. You should see how Messi is being treated in Paris right now. You should see how French National fans treated Mbappe who took them to the finals

Not that I am condoning any of these acts. You are always goign to have a small minority that over steps or downright A*******

That doesn't mean the entire fan base is or as you put it, CAN BE

Again Kyle Dubas never claimed to be in a bad head space…

It’s his family that were affected and want him to potentially step away. Not Kyle himself. Him taking a break isn’t because Kyle wants to. He’s taking a break because his family is asking him to and he wants to respect the desires of his family. It’s not that hard.

In your opinion

Unless Dubas doesn’t return.

I would hope the new GM would put his stamp on the team immediately, this team is made in the image of what Dubas considers a cup contender, if changes aren’t made the team is no closer to actually being a contender imo…….

That's fair, Pridham may very well be the answer.

Still hoping to see Dubas back if he is up for it.

The timing of the "other teams are considering asking for permission to speak to Pridham" was really interesting this week - a whole update about nothing, almost reminding everyone that Pridham is a high value asset to the organization.

Personally, if it's not Dubas / Dubas moves into the president vacancy, then I would much prefer the organization look externally for a new GM. Feels like we are at the point where a fresh set of eyes and a new approach would be very beneficial for this group.
