CJ points out on both podcasts this week, that the organization were caught off guard by it.

I think Kyle was too - it didn't feel pre-meditated or calculated to me, but just in the process of answering the question he went down the road of being completely honest, and the emotion got to him.

At that point, the media justifiably continued down the road.

It's not a Soap Opera - there's an insane amount of pressure & dealing with this fanbase's / market's toxicity is not an easy thing to do.
It isn’t easy. This is not a place for rookie managers and not a learn as you go city.
You have some leeway, but it’s going to run out very quick as opposed to a California (or other) based team.

I have scores of Leafs fans friends (some in my display pic), a lot of whom are only watching during the playoffs when it matters for them....

I guess it never occurred to that poster that not everyone cares to contribute to meaningless regular season chest-thumping anymore

No, it occurs to me that spending your time online with strangers discussing something that you don't actually care to follow or show real interest in 11 months of the year is sad, almost to the point of masochism. Do something you actually enjoy.

Who are you, and wtf do you care about what people do with their time!? You can still be a fan of the team and disgusted with how they're managed and struggle to watch during the season. I guess to some, it's pom-poms full time or you're miserable and should do something else

I agree with that completely.

I also think Kyle has done a lot of positive learning and growth on the job, and continues to get better. Whether you like him or not, you can't ignore the fact that he gets a ton of business done in a league that notoriously complains about how hard it is to make moves etc. He finds ways to get what he wants done, even if we don't agree with some of those moves.

I can see why MLSE want him. I think it's ridiculous that he wasn't extended last summer

Yup. Fan/= Cheerleader.

Maybe he enjoys masochism....

Gets to kill 2 birds with one stone!

I think part of the delay in this process now, the way I understand it, is that MLSE had already laid the groundwork to bring Dubas back, but were thrown off-guard by the direction that presser took, and are now giving Dubas the time he needs to decide what he wants.

The most telling thing to come out of all of this, is perhaps the realization that MLSE do intend to bring him back.
Ah, Dubas went off script.
We got a runner, lock it down.

You're a reality expert now, Life Coach?

I'm a Leaf fan that enjoys this board as place to have insightful discussion with other Leaf and hockey fans that follow the team and the league, that track prospects, that have some degree of understanding of the CBA beyond parroting TSN talking points. Small town life doesn't have that. Like a gm, don't like gm, coach, player, prospect, pick, trade, signing- cool. That's what discussion is for, or this place would be boring. Props to @ToneDog @ACC1224 (and others) for that. We rarely agree, but you're here.

But when you don't actually follow any of it for months on end, what do you have to offer? How is any different than a Habs fan coming in and trolling the board?

clearly your brain is too shallow to understand the 24/7 demands of the job. Money is not everything.
Heavy lies the crown, obviously it’s not for everyone. Having said that most people in high positions realize what baggage comes with the job, it’s why they’re financially compensated so well. If your not a shark, your bait……..

Kirk (Voice over): "We have been called to an urgent mission to the planet Buds, a blue and white planet in the Atlantic System, to mediate a dispute between two warring factions, the Dubasites and a group that calls themselves The Skeptics. We must attempt to diffuse tensions before the next iteration of The Games. Strangely, these two groups are united almost religiously on a Great Common Cause, but have vast differences on the methods to which they MUST achieve their goals".
Spock: "Fascinating. Also highly illogical. I'll never understand humans and their emotions".

I have a feeling we get Dubas news today. Just a hunch.

Oh, and that hunch also says he's staying but Keefe is gone.
I think you are right. I thought we would hear by Wednesday, at this point the team needs to know by this weekend so they can plan accordingly.

It scares me that there appears to be no contingency plan. If Dubas does take the year off, who comes into run this team during on of the most important periods in it's history?

The next 5-8 weeks are massive!
I would say that they 100% have a contingency plan.

Because we know him. He is a Leaf fan and we have had many discussions in the past. Just because you haven’t spoken to him very much, doesn’t make him any less a fan than the rest of us.
If he needed a break, that’s cool as well. I get it.
Maybe even Dubas needs a break.

I'm perfectly fine with a team that will easily qualify for the playoffs doing this often during the regular season. It should never happen in playoff hockey. And by extension it should never happen during rivalry games (as trial runs for playoff hockey) during the regular season regardless of where the opponent is in the standings.
But this does carry over to the playoffs .
Also we beat good teams in the regular season and suck against teams lower in the standing.
They have a mentality thinking that they can turn it up when they want to.
Everything carry over to the next.

Literally franchise-altering either way - re-sign Matthews and/or Nylander July 1, or don't and have to deal with moving them or losing them for nothing. Then on top of it the draft and some 8-10 roster spots to have to action by way of re-signing depth UFAs or signing new ones. Oh yeah, and the #1 goalie is an RFA due for a hefty salary increase when he's still unproven.

I cannot believe we're Thursday already and there's still no sniff of Shanahan or what's happening with the GM... this is an otherworldly joke.

Say Dubas stays with the mandate from ownership to can Keefe, a HC doesn't just get hired overnight, there's an entire process and we know with this organization they pander to court of public opinion in terms of fairness so expect a few candidates and "rounds" of interviews to appear fair.

There should have been a tight deadline placed on him. There is no way he woke up Monday morning and hadn't spoken to his significant other about choices. Even if he had no contract on the table until that morning (which there cannot be any way that is true), he is smart and calculated enough to have already weighed the decision both ways ahead of Monday.

This is a disaster.

Perhaps it's posters like you, and a bunch of others, who only accept cheerleading anything else and you're a miserable person and go do something else with your time. You are part of the reason some posters stay away.
Don't tell people how to be a fan, and don't proclaim that if you're not posting all the time, or taking a break from the Leafs, you're basically a troll.

On the other hand news could drop any minute of a new GM and coach that are already in place.

Calm down. It's Thursday May 18th. We knew Monday that Shanahan wasnt speaking until late in the week.
