When I watched game 4 end scum as Bennett and Montour beaten up Jake McCabe, and no other Leafs players jumped onto Bennett and Montour, dropped the gloves, I understand the team need blood change.worst of worst, when Takchuk slapped Marner face, Marner asked slapped again. WTF?!

Just compare Pietro's chop on Drai from the constant harassment he was enduring from the Oilers tells you everything you need to know about the Leafs.

Marner's smile is literally like Matthews' goofy smile when he was being yanked and handled by Chiarot against Montreal.

I don't even know what's going on during they scrum with Marner. He is coasing into the play, is facing the big hit on Reilly and sees the scrum...but while every player on the ice's immediate reaction is to skate forward towards the scrum, his initial reaction seems to be to skate away from it. Then he bumps into Tkachuk who pushes him back towards the scrum, and from there Marner looks like he knows he's somewhere he doesn't want to be and gets tangled with Tkachuk.

He did just fine and if he did it more often I'd have more appreciation for him, but typically he skates away from these altercations. In this case it seems like his initial reaction was to do the same.

The Leafs job is hard and there are tons of reasons for someone in Dubas' position to re-evaluate and maybe walk away.

So why not just re-evaluate and then inform the world of a decision once you've done all you need to? There's just a level of personal information that I don't think will be of use if he decided to stay. That feeling of being too under pressure probably won't change if he got another GM job.
Imo, Dubas has done himself no favours here. He appears weak both to his current employer and to any future employer. If I was either it would give me pause on wanting him running a team. Airing his personal life and the problems that go with it is exactly that…….personal. If he did this to garner sympathy he made a huge mistake, if he did it because his family life is imploding and it’s his first priority (which it should be) then the decision should already be made………

We should know today per Johnston how the Leafs and Dubas will proceed. Sounds like MLSE approved an extension for Dubas but he wanted to think on it as he said.

If Dubas decides to step down, he links Pridham as the likely successor in some capacity.

Who said that? Johnston reported board werent committed to giving him one last summer cuz they wanted to wait and see how we would perform in these playoffs. Board now inclined to give him one but he prob wants more $$$ and power and shanny/board at a standstill cuz it doesnt deserve it
I guess I’m giving the quoted tweet the benefit of the doubt. I personally don’t feel like these playoffs should be considered a success and should justify an extension. If they ARE going to (or were planning to) extend him based on these playoffs, then they really couldn’t have cared much about results to begin with.

Now if the dollars or conditions of the contract are the stumbling block, then that changes everything. I guess I pictured his new contract being an extension of the old one.

Difference being of course that one guy is a foot taller and 50 pounds heavier.

He was asked a question and he answered hit. It neither made him look weak nor strong just human.

If hes not signing an eight year deal then trade him.
Honestly think the Leafs would really regret giving Mathews an 8 yr contract by year 4 or 5 . Hope i'm wrong for everyones sake but Mathews doesn't scream out he'll have a long career at the top of his game to me for some reason . Feel even stronger about this if his wrist is permanently damaged.

Kyper bourne said the same thing yesterday. Nice listen. I think we are all picking this family thing apart and see it for what it is (consideringvits not health related) which kyper said he doesnt think so as he didnt hear anything of that nature. If you cant handle the job its time to step down. Does he thinkvif he comes back it will be a lot lighter? Heck next year will be even worse. I think shanny/board probably thinking what we doing we this guy now after those comments. This is a billion dollar organization. Time to move on

Just such an odd situation
They don't offer him a contract extension last summer, they go out early in the playoffs again, and now they're willing to!? But now he needs time to reflect!? It won't get any easier here, in fact there will be huge pressure to re-shape the team

This is the crux of the matter for me. The plan ostensibly was to have the big contracts lead the way and fill in the gaps around them as necessary. It'd be fair to state that one or more factors (the core, the supporting cast of players, the coach) have either stalled or failed to progress in a meaningful way to this point. My defence of the NMCs given to Matthews and Marner comes from the belief that these players essentially should be the final shoes to drop whenever change needs to occur...and that pursuing either path is likely to be indicative of a team in disarray.
IMO...... MLSE gave the players favorable dollars, term, and payment schedules. Why you would also give full NMC's on an RFC contract, essentially giving the player full control of their destiny even earlier than the CBA allows.

He also mentioned Brad Treliving as a possible hire if they look externally.

Yeah, I do sympathize with the idea that work pressures can impact his family as a person, but I don’t know if revealing that and being human will serve him well in his capacity as a corporate master in an adversarial and pressure job. It’s another vulnerability that’s now in public consumption. Put the cone of silence around your family and protect your privacy man! That’s why I think he can’t really continue and be Shapiro Atkins again tomorrow.

I dont get the impression many are looking for continuity
Lol no kidding. We need fresh eyes, new vision and ultimately new culture while also trading core players.

Johnston said on his podcast (released late Monday) that change (or confirmation Dubas will stay) could happen Tuesday or Wednesday at the GM level. Obviously Tuesday didn't happen. So we'll see today.

I hope the family situation isn't a health related issue.
Kyper said he's very certain it's not because usually for that stuff the media gets tipped off for it so they dont look stupid. I really think mroe and more Dubas is out

Johnston will be on the SDP podcast today as well, and I'm sure he'll talk about it a lot more.

Hopefully we have some news before the podcast is out though.

We'll know when things are decided when Shanahan announces his press conference.

I would think later today or tomorrow and I believe Dubas will be extended.

Probably tomorrow.. I have a hunch.

If he extends, he and Shanny will want to ensure they’re prepared for the questions about next steps with the team

If he doesn’t, Shanny will have to get his plan B lined up and finalized

So I assume Dubas has a decision today but we don’t hear anything until tomorrow. Thursday before a long weekend makes sense
