Pretty damn good combinations actually
I expect the lamentations if each plays RW, but I really like this last lineup I proposed.

I think that, off all goes wright, that would battle for a playoff spot.

Of course, that will rattle all the other segment of posters on this site for irrational reasons other than Dach not playing C.

BTW, I'd really want Emil Heineman to become Emil I'm-Your-Man.

Newhook is not going from centering a third line in Colorado to once again center a third line here IMO.

They said they will give him more offensive opportunities and better linemates, he'll be a winger in the top6.

Maybe, as a C in Montreal, with a coach that goes with three offensive lines instead of two top lines and the rest as checking lines, Newhook ends up with more TOI, on top better line mates?

It would not be an identical situation to what we saw in COL. I don't think so, at least, but I do understand the reasoning that he will likely get top-6 minutes to start, to better analyse where he stands ins development.

Unless Newhook get some serious work done in the FO circle, no way he can be a C.

His current FO% is 38.6% in 932 faceoffs.

As a reference, Gallagher is 42.5% in 711 faceoffs.

RHP and Heineman are basically two rookies on top of it.

Are they really better linemates?

Heineman will not even make the starting roster IMO.

If any rookie does, it will be him, IMO.

It could also be:

Caufield - Suzuki - Dach
RHP - Newhook - Anderson
Slafkovsky -Monahan - Heineman
Armia - Dvorak - Gallagher

with the 2nd and 3rd lines getting similar minutes...

They'll have to put one of Pezzetta, Evans, or Ylonen on waivers in that case, maybe even 2 of them if they decide to keep 8D up or start the year with 3 Goalies.

I don't see that happening.

They could bring him up later in the season when we get hit by injuries.

I don't see losing any of Pezzetta or Ylonen a major squeeze for this team, TBH, but I still think you're right.

If Heineman makes the team's lineup, it will be as the first call-up when injuries start to manifest themselves. His play, after that, will determine if he stays in Montreal or goes back down if the team gets healthy again.

I still prefer Heineman to Pezzetta and Ylonen is running out of lending strip for the NHL. Evans is a wonky away from not being an NHLer anymore, but I would not waive whims C depth is always crucial.

I'm not Pezzetta's biggest fan either but they seem to like him as the extra guy.

They gave him a 2 year deal...He's good in the room probably and just happy to be part of the team even if not playing most of the nights.

Not super high on Ylonen either but I just think Hughes will go the safe route and try to not lose players without a reason.

Evans is safe IMO, no way they put him on waivers.

Someone could get injured during the camp as usual and it will open a door for Heineman ... Hopefully, it doesn't happen though.

If Dvo is out to start the year, I have Heineman as at worst 14th on the depth chart at forward. So if they go 14F, 7D, and 2G I have him making the team. But the may go 8D, and keep Lindstrom up.

Dvorak was skating with the boys in a regular jersey the other day in Brossard.

And we're one month away from the season start.

I think he will be ready to go.

Dvorak out would be more about Beck getting a chance to have another look-see, before returning t Junior, I think, than Heineman getting a spot on the team, position opening doors for Beck, but Dvorak does look like he'll be in for opening day.

It'll need be an injury to a winger, I believe, and, if that's the case, let's hope it is Armia, or Gallagher that pinches a nerve or something, not someone from our young core.

Even if Dvorak is not ready to go I don't see them keeping Beck around.

They can easily go:
Suzuki
Dach
Monahan
Evans

Yes, but placing both Dach and Monahan at C really weakens the wings for the top-6, IMO.

It's possible to go with three tandems the top-9 and relatively okay wingers to complete the duos, but I honestly don't think it is optimal for everyone's development

Caufielld - Suzuki - ???
??? - Dach - Newhook or Newhook - Dach - ???
Slafkovsky - Monahan - ???

I can see a great line of Slafkovsky - Monahan - Anderson for the third line, with Anderson doing his best work as a third line winger on a heavy, physical line with those two.

But, I don't think RHP should be on a top-6 line, ideally and I don't know who would end up complementing either the Caufield - Suzuki or Newhook - Dach duos in order to maximize the production level of those duos, not just to plug those lines?

We just lack confirmed or established top-6 wingers.

I already suggested this a couple of times without a lot of enthusiasm coming back obviously but I could see them trying Armia on that first line.

I know he's this enigmatic player who looks like an all-star once in 10 games and useless the other 9 games but he would be an ideal compliment for those two if he could bring his A game more often.

Big winger who's extremely solid defensively and a beast on the boards in protection of the puck.

He's skilled enough to make plays and he has a great shot, Honestly, I have no idea what's wrong with this guy, so much wasted potential...

Let him wear a Finland jersey under the Habs jersey maybe it will help him!

We really need this kid to pan put. He has good size, good skating, a wicked shot.

I think he is going to be a top 9 forward at min. Not sure if he is a top 6 quality yet. I am a fan of his tools for sure. Size, skating, shot, worth ethic.

I always thought Heineman had more value than the late 1st we got in that trade (ended up being Mesar). It will be interesting to see how both of them turn out because we considered the Toffoli trade as a decent return.

I recall some fans saying Heineman was traded 2 times now. Panthers to Flames and Flames to Habs... so therefore, he is not any good. Not how I seen it but time will tell.

Great. For $6.5 million over the next four years we have found our face-off specialist.

They said not before November for him.

Just play him with Newhook and Anderson. Lots of speed and energy.

Worth a try. I have Pearson in that spot now, and either Dvo or Evans when Dvo comes back.

There's no rush to get Heineman in the NHL. But if he's the best player for the job, he should get it. Newhook and Anderson may need a very good 200 foot player as their 3rd wheel. So Pearson might be good for now. We'll see.

Ideally you have Anderson, Slaf, and Heineman each on a different line. Each bring size, speed, and a shot. Anderson and Heineman don't fit with Suzuki and Caufield. I would have liked to have see how Slaf fits.

He has real good shot. Going to score a lot of goals in NHL. Probably 2nd line winger with size and speed. Nice pickup

Not if they play him on the 4th Line... same with Ylonen to a lesser extent. Habs finally have 3 good centers, why waste one of them playing with Gallagher and Pearson rather than Heinemann Ylonen...

Unfortunately, the way it works is that veterans have to play themselves out of a spot and young players have to play their way in.
