It don’t matter to a certain point, but then you have to surround those elite ‘’smaller’’ talent with bigger guys. Skilled bigger guys.

Bigger guys that can skate is a min. Then if they have skill or a great shot, even better. At that point, you have someone better than Anderson or equal to him. Mixing in them with selected smaller types is the right strategy. Just don't build a roster with too many smaller/softer types cause then sheltering all of them becomes a problem. And yeah, we are talking about playoff standards too. When it matters the most.

I get a vibe about this kid. I have watched the 4 games in Laval and his skating is explosive, his shot is lethal. He looks like an NHLer playing in Laval.
JF Houle said that Heineman is a special player (paraphrasing).

Damn, things are starting to look up for this organization.

Pretty decent pro scouting for their first year.

Heineman was pushed for by our new Swedish scout Tommy Lehmann at the draft but the panthers picked him 4 spots before or he likely would have been picked by us in 2020.

I like the pick up of Condotta. While not flashy, he's been much better then I was expecting as I thought his teammate Owen Savory would have been the better find but was clearly wrong there (I struggle with goalies, always have) I think he gets NHL games in next season.

Richard is another solid pick up, he torched us last season so whoever saw that and said why not get him on our team, good job!

Same with Pitlick and Kovacevic. Interested to see more of Gurianov to see if they found something or not. Haven't seen or heard anything on Tierney.

He has'nt been bad for us centering the 4th line. If he accepts this role I would be tempted to bring it back at low cost for 1 year.

And yeah, Heineman, I really believe we have something there. A pretty nice package he is... I see top 6 potential much more than, say, Ylonen.

Heineman-Dach-RHP would be pretty good me think. ;)

Caufield-Suzuki-Anderson
Heineman-Dach-RHP
Hoffman-Dvorak-Gallagher
Slafkovski-Evans-Armia
Pezzetta-Tierney-Ylonen

My God that lineup's an eyesore

I agree Heineman's game will fit well with Dach power center pass first mentality. Heiny is proving to be a great finisher with his quick release and shot arsenal.

Caufield-Suzuki owning everything
Slaf-Dubois exploits weaker opposition
Dach-Heineman plays against best line

All very solid duos for our top 3 lines of the future. This pespective also make it easier to find the right third wheel for ultimate chemestry.

Given the logjam of forwards I don t see how they can fit Gurianov, Tierney in this lineup, esp if they want to bring in young guys. Pitlick has not shown anything this year in the NHL but was very good in Laval, could see him as 14F.

I hope they trade Hoffman to give a shot at Ylonen on line 3. I hope either Slaf or Heineman plays in Laval so that none plays on line 4, that s a job for Pezzetta, Belzile, not great for your future top 6 development. And finally I really hope they trade Anderson as long as he is healthy ish

It was evident to me in camp that we have something special here. Only his last game was a bit off. I think he sensed early on that he had a chance at the big club and then realized or was told it wasn't in the cards for this season. So anyone who thinks we will sign Drouin and potentially block players like Heineman RHP and Ylonen give your head a shake. Evans is more valuable and probably plays as many games overall but even he is on his way out eventually.

Anybody knows why he had a mediocre season in Sweden? From what I understand his style might be more suited to smaller surfaces, but is that the whole story?

Bringing players over from Finland/Sweden and returning them back after camp is generally not great practice. The reason is that while they are over in North America, their club teams are playing, so the minutes and special teams are given to people there.. so you end up not always getting the best deployment.

Secondly, he did return from camp with an injury.. so you're also behind the eight ball a bit there trying to get up to speed.

So the combination of those two things and what you said ultimately led to an uneven season. Luckily it looks like it hasn't hurt him as he's come back to Laval.

I've always found european numbers to be a bit dodgy when trying to compare them to NA. Some smart person might have a formula that can equate the two but I'm not that person.

The league is a lot more defensive and teams rely heavily on their vets.

The top scorer on his team only got 32 points.

To my eye at least a lot of it is a style thing. He's just better suited for a more north-south, small area of the ice type game. He was getting around 15 minutes a game in the SHL and spending a lot of it in the neutral zone, not touching the puck a lot. It's just a very different mindset hockey wise.

How many of those players will stick? Hoffman and Dvorak don’t fit, Evans is good but fragile and limited, I don’t see a reason to keep Tierney yet.

If everyone is healthy there will be competition for spots even with players leaving. Have to get guys healthy, though.
