The most important thing with him this season is that he stays healthy

With the ton of wingers we have under contract, I don’t really see this happening.
If he deserve to be there he will. They will send down players to AHL

Veterans take it easy during the camp, there's no way they send a vet to the AHL because he looked average during the training camp.
Veterans that have earned that right yes. Mediocre vets like Armia and Hoffman should be told they will have to prove they are worthy of a spot.

Really intrigued by this prospect.

A few things that are very apparent from one game:

His shot and release are nhl level. They are actually both quite above average when compared to many nhlers. His shot and release mechanics are very Pacioretty-esque.

His skating and puck hounding skills are also nhl level.

Those skills were a step above everyone else on the ice yesterday.

He's 6'2 too per the rookie camp latest measurements. His shot and skating with a frame like that is good news. We may have a good player here. Do you guys think he can dislodge a vet or is it SHL again for him?

We’ll get a better sense at training camp when he plays against actual nhlers. It was clear he was a step above the kids he was playing against yesterday. So we need to wait.

In this news clip, RDS seem to think Heineman would prefer to get out of his contract in Sweden and play for the Rocket, if possible. But in the clip where Heineman is interviewed he doesn't make any statements about this, so not sure why RDS reported this.

I was critical of the return for Tofu but I like what I’ve seen from Heineman this far. Good size and skating, and can really shoot the puck. He and Mesar look like fine return for Tofu at the moment.

Apparently bergevin (timmins) wanted Heineman in the 2020 draft with one of their 2nd round picks but he ended up being drafted at #43 and the habs had #47 and #48 so got Tuch and Mysak.

If we didn’t have that many useless vets i think he would’ve made the team.

Why would it be easier to make the team if the vets were useful ??

...why do we need Hoffman in the lineup??...guy's a lost cause at this point; send him to the AHL (or preferably another team)...

I’m 100% with you lol but i don’t think you can realistically send him in the AHL and be successful at trading him after.

Yep totally.

Any winger not named Caufield or Anderson is not indispensable in this team and should be waived/sent to the AHL in the case where a rookie is outperforming them.

Imagine sending Slaf down or Heineman back to Sweden because you want to maximise the value of fringe assets like Dadonov, Byron, Drouin, Armia etc

They're 18 and 20. Neither of them are going to be harmed waiting a little bit longer and developing more.

Especially Heineman who isn't NHL ready.
