Is that purposefully dense?

He has personal ties (in two of the cases i'd consider them close) to three current members of the Canucks team.

There is a reason Russo has done like 3 profiles on Brock, including the extremely personal story about Brock and his dad's illness, and not someone from the Vancouver press corps.

There is a reason Yeo gave him an indepth interview, where he was very honest the summer after he was fired.

There is a reason Boudreau goes on his podcast or calls in when he's on the radio even years after the Wild let him go (as recently as September 2022 while coach of the canucks).

He has personal relationships with members of the Canucks organization. That's just simply a fact.

Even beyond all the extremely valid connections directly and (some) indirectly to Vancouver you've already listed, he's been in the business for like two decades and is HIGHLY respected in the industry. Russo does tend to speculate a lot on his podcasts, so it's important to know when he's doing that, but he never puts out a rumor like this unless he has already confirmed it with other reliable sources he has.

If he's explicitly stating that he has a little bit of knowledge that Pettersson isn't going to want to re-sign in Vancouver, I would venture to guess that he's hedging a bit, and it's more than just "a little bit of knowledge" he's been made aware of. He never floats stuff like this just for clicks or attention. I have a lot of reasons I don't always like Russo, but journalistic integrity is not one of them. He takes that seriously.

Did Johnny Gaudreau signal his intention to leave at any point last year?
We’re talking about an RFA player who’s got 1 year left, 4-5 years younger, and will still be an RFA, not someone who’s already well into their prime and was an upcoming UFA.

But let’s say the rumours are “true”. Other than Tkachuk (sign and trade which is something I don’t see happening again for a loooooong time), show me another time a 24 year old, franchise player like Pettersson was traded simply because he thought the team sucks and wanted to win and was granted a trade because he said so?

Why does it matter how many times it's happened? That doesn't mean it can't happen... Tkachuk is the only example you need to show you that.

And wasn't there tension during his last contract negotiation because he didn't trust the direction, and wasn't willing to sign long term because of it? Seems like becoming even more directionless since then would only add credence to the idea that he doesn't wanna be there anymore, no?

Ah yes.

So let’s go with the insider from the States who has a gut feeling Petey wants out as credible.

Over a literal hour old direct source from Petey’s agent saying he hates losing (like everyone else!) and wants to play in Vancouver.
I mean, if Petey hates losing then he probably does want out of Vancouver.

I'm not saying I believe the Russo rumour, but he is known as a credible guy and has very direct relationships with people in the Canucks organization.

No, I'm sure he wants to stay on the Canucks while their front office continues to waste his prime years with boneheaded trades and signings.

I'm not rooting for Pettersson to leave, but the Canucks fans throwing a temper tantrum calling Russo a hack, and just some beat writer of another team, are ignoring the reality of the situation. He could force his way out and it wouldn't be surprising at all.

So again, ties with Minnesota

Probably because it meets the definition of a rumour. The only people upset here are the ones doing mental gymnastics thinking Pettersson is happy playing for this dumpster fire organization.
If after the completion of his deal and 6 nhl seasons with nothing to show for it team wise I would not blame any player for wanting out. That’s the reality of life.

I am surprised that Miller opted to sign vs tell the team hey I think it’s best if you trade me in the summer or something.

Being at the cap ceiling while being bottom 8 in the nhl and they’ve been consistently doing that over the past 8/9 seasons tells you the team is poorly run and can’t get things right from the top down.

didnt make Pettersson make some comments last year that he doesnt wanna take part in a rebuild something like that? I mean if thats the direction Vancouver is heading I'd try to score big time and deal him for as much as possible while he's hot.

It’s been mentioned multiple times that he hates losing and wants to play for a competitive team. Vancouver is not a competitive team, so it’s highly unlikely Pettersson signs any long-term deal here unless they quickly turn things around.

100% speculation by definition

False
Then you have a tenuous grasp of the English language.

"My gut says Elias is going to want to move on. That's just my gut. Gut and a little bit of knowledge."

"As Wild fans know, if I say something it's usually because I got a...like...I don't just throw stuff out there. It's never been my style. I just think that with Pettersson, there's some behind the scenes stuff there that would probably want to make him go elsewhere."

This would fit into both definitions. Please explain why it shouldn’t fit into the definition of a rumour, otherwise this is a waste of time.

Russo definitely is one of them, he has broken numerous trades both Wild and other teams over the years. He has also expanded his focus over the past two years and especially this year to be more national coverage, they brought in Joe Smith to cover the Wild while Russo widens his focus. Having said that, the things he puts in print tend to be far more reliable than his verbal content, his podcasts are a lot more speculative.

Russo definitely does have connections around the league and in Vancouver, so him having insider knowledge really isn’t absurd, he has a pretty good reputation and generally doesn’t throw out rumors that don’t have some kind of legs behind them.
I get it, you’re either a Russo fanboy or Russo himself.

Wants out = rumour
Is going to want out = speculation
So you don’t understand what the definition of a rumour is, got it.

This report/story fits under the definition of both a rumour and speculation. Please stop clogging this thread up with petty complaints because you don’t like the narrative. Thanks!
